The most successful D1 team which by the way has more money than any other RTC, forfeits weight classes.

Definitely not good!

Because they had multiple kids who weren’t cleared medically because of surgery and/or COVID. Plus, you can only take x amount of athletes on the road. The only embarrassment is your uninformed rants.

Cael Sanderson track record speaks for itself going back to middle school so if you’re trying to find something to criticize him on you have absolutely nothing to do lol

The 125 spot has been a disappointment.  Hopefully we have a .500 wrestler now.

@underlion: Howard is going to have a decent year.  May even AA if he peaks at the right time.  He's still figuring things out, especially how to wrestle from the bottom in college.  That was the toughest adjustment to make coming out of HS and into college.

Beau looked pretty tough against Sasso.  In fact, he gave him all he could handle.  To score a TD on Sasso speaks volumes, the guy is that tough on his feet and doesnt allow his opponent to get any angles on him let alone level changes.

Losing Kerk at Hvwt really hurts us in regards to the NCAA's.  I like the way this team is lining up and I wouldnt count any Cael coached team out.  Joe Lee needs to figure a few things out but I'm sure Casey will pull him aside and talk with him.  On Friday, he looked like he never saw a gramby roll before.  I know he tweaked his knee and all, but man; ya cant get caught in a move like that wrestling at this level.

So PSU does not have the richest RTC or has not been the most successful D1 wrestling team the last decade? Or both?

PA high school wrestling coaches are concerned about the growing number of forfeits. Looks like PSU is in the same boat. Last night against Penn, Sanderson did not send out a heavyweight.

@sky From what I read Kerkvliet had the flu and although he wanted to go in, Cael kept him out since they were assured of the win. Nevills is still with the football team so no valid back up. Duals really aren't that important but i think he knew he could win this one with back ups at least until the real meat of the dual season starts after January.

I don't see it as an embarassment to forfeit a match statistically once the team had the win it is like pulling your QB in mop up time.  We have been managing injuries and illnesses this year.  It is a long season and the GOAT knows when he wants the team peaking.

Not just high school coaches. The NWCA, USA Wrestling, Dan Gable, loyal wresting fans are worried about the future of wrestling. Unfortunately, some are predicting that college wrestling is headed in the same direction that men’s gymnastics did and that is because of numbers decreasing, it is no longer sanctioned by the NCAA.

Men's gymnastics is still sponsored by the NCAA. There are 15 teams, Penn State is one of them.

This went about as I expected. Too close for comfort at times, but Iowa is more of a dual meet team than a tournament team, so I would expect the margin to be wider in March. Plus, Cael has an uncanny way of getting his guys to peak at the right time. Agree with the kid, DeSanto should have been DQ’d the second he made contact with the ref and the clock operator was horrendous. Take care kid, safe travels home and hope the grandparents are doing well.

Thanks for the clarification. I was misinformed.

Pulling the QB is totally different. When that happens, a sub is put in. When a weight class is forfeited in wrestling it’s because the team doesn’t have a body. It’s a bad look for the sport of wrestling when the most successful and richest team forfeits a weight class.

It was DII that was discontinued because of a drop of programs. That’s the genesis of my error.

Most successful team??  Oklahoma State says "hello".

We've had a good run with CS as HC for sure but I wouldn't call us the most successful.

Richest team??  There are many who would disagree with that statement too.

Definitions matter as you noted.  What is most sucessful?  Does it have a time frame?  Richest?  One might fairly assume that has something to do with the wrestling programs money?  I suppose richest could be 'history'.  What does richest matter anyway?  I don't suppose PSU wrestling makes $.  Maybe Iowa's program does.  At PSU Football pays the bills.

But back to the original attack of 'embarrassing' to forfeit.  Does anyone remember COVID?  Do wrestlers get sick?  Hurt?  Should we wrestle injured wrestlers so as not to embarrass certain fans?  How many wrestlers of each weight do you travel with just in case your primary isn't a go?  Is it embarrassing not to put out your best wrestler and avoid a highly ranked opposing wrestler?  Is it embarrassing to send out a 'stand in' that isn't competitive because he is wrestling up 2 weights?  Send him out and say 'try to avoid getting PF'd?

Seems what embarrasses people may differ.  If I was thinking about wrestling embarrassments I might consider a certain wrestler at Iowa, maybe even some coaches.  I might consider the Rutgers wrestler that kept slugging Zain.

No, I'm not embarrassed, disappointed in our 125 performance over the last couple years but not embarrassed?  No.

It isn't just about winning, though the program is clearly the best in any near term history.  The program, in general terms, is one to be proud of.

To your point, Alabama could say they are the most successful team... but Princeton with their 28 championships could dispute it if you go back far enough.
