Another thing to wonder about. While the rest of the college football system seems to think all our coaches, including Franklin, are worth having, why doesn't that add up to a well coached PSU team?
Did he get an offer from another school ? No proof out there that he did, it was just unfounded drivel from reporters that were trying to create clickzs.

I actually think there is some truth to that.
On another note, looks like Pry is putting together a damn good staff. Will be interesting to see what he does at VaTech
I may be in the minority here but my only beef with the coaching over the last few years has been with 2 things...#1 the offensive line and #2 the secondary consistently getting beat deep in 3rd and long situations...Much of the problems on the offensive side of the ball is the offensive line...When you have a group up front that are basically matadors and walking turnstiles it is very difficult to put together any type of gameplan that is going to be successful...You add in the fact that the TE's are late and missing blocking assignments and I don't give a rip who you have at QB, running back or WR...The offense isn't going to get anything done and that is in the nutshell what you have here...EVERY game they lost this year was a direct result of the offensive line and their inability to run the football when they needed to...They didn't get blown out of any game this year and every game they lost was close and should have won...EVERY game...EVERY game they would have won had they been able to run the football and gain a yard or 2 when they needed it...I had to laugh as one of the offensive tackles declared for the NFL draft...YOU HAVE GOT TO BE F'n SHITTING ME!!! That lad is delusional...Anyway...If Franklin can fix this Offensive Line situation that will solve 99% of the problems with this team...I am hoping cause I think his job depends on it...
@psu61 if he doesn’t get the defense off the field on 3rd and 20 he won’t do much.
FD and SPF, exactly to both your comments.

That offensive lineman you are talking about is Rasheed Walker, and he is far from delusional. Some sites project him as a 2nd rounder, others in the 3-4 range. Our problem was the interior of the OL, not the tackles. The Center and Guards were terrible.
They must see something that I missed...I agree that the center and 2 guards were terrible but the tackles weren't exactly stellar either...I wish the young man well but I sure as hell wouldn't draft any of the Penn State lineman from this team PERIOD let alone in the 2nd round...I have one word for that unit...OLE'
@the-funeral-director FD, I agree with you if you don’t have an offensive line you ain’t going to win regardless who the QB and RB’s are but if you can will you please explain how we won 11 games 3 times from 2016-2019 with 2 different QB’s and 3 different RB’s as starters?
I remember looking at the published terms of JF’s new contract and I saw the buy outs were pretty low. No? If so that tells me improve or goodbye. JF is a great recruiter but that is it IMHO. 6 years as a QB? ….. no no no. 14 is just like another 14. Flashes of brilliance then WTF. I was happy to see Will Levi’s do well at Kentucky. He would have had little time here. What about our up and comers? How long will they wait. These kids today want to play now. Right or wrong they won’t hang around. I am in the O$U realm geographically. They get mostly 4 and 5 stars as the kids know they will get big NIL deals. 4 or 5 players here got new trucks AND cars this year. It was on TV. Where would you go when your only goal is to make money and go to the NFL? Student athlete my butt. These kids will not wait long if they don’t play. Portal. College football is a joke any more. I also am pushing 72 and I remember. Here fan pressure is absurd. Winning is not enough. It has to be flawless also. If you felt a strong wind from the east blowing west that was Columbus imploding when Michigan destroyed them. We used to go to P$U games around the turn of the century. No more. I’ll sit on my couch and watch the debacle unfold then change the channel to a game. No kidding I call and get 40-50 % of what we do right. I know little about football and that should not happen. A lot of our local kids go D1. Big 10, etc. this yr several went to CINCY, OSU, MICH and Rutgers got 4 well rated OL. how many OL did we get? Insanity is doing the same thing year after year and hoping for a change. Need good coaches.

Because we had an athletic QB and NFL caliber RBs with electric speed all 3 of those years
We also played in a system that hides a bad OL by placing much more emphasis on QB runs and RPO.
That type of system can mask a lot of deficiencies, but also gets your QB beat up a ton. This is one reason our offense disappeared at the end of big games like Ohio State. Also, elite defenses tend to shut down those type of offenses too. Which is why we were rarely able to win games against elite teams.
Also u can look at mcsorley’s three years and by his last year he running for his life and his passer rating decreased. That dude was a flat out competitor and leader but u can only do so much when the other parts aren’t working.
@roaminglion I would give you McSorley,Barkley and Sanders but since Clifford and a RB by committee half the year until Brown stepped his game up in 2019 makes me think the OL was better that it gets credit for. I know you think Limegrover was a good coach but a bad recruiter but James Franklin had to sign off on all the 4* players that was recruited to play the OL. The FD said no QB or RB could do anything without an OL and I was just pointing out the years we were winning 11 games. Maybe you’re right I’m just frustrated at James Franklin for the last 2 years and it’s causing me not to be able to connect the dots 😂
I am convinced if Penn State had even an average interior offensive line this year they would be playing for a national title...That is what has me so salty and pissed off about this season...Even a casual football fan could see that they were just plain terrible...And Roam answered Southerns question exactly as I would...He was spot on...I don't give a flying rip who is coaching, playing QB, RB, WR or TE...Until this offensive line is fixed this program isn't going anywhere...The defense will be very good again next year in spite of the losses as the replacements are terrific athletes and will step in and compete...The WR's are all highly regarded and will step in and be fine, The running backs are a talented group and there is a 6th year returning starter with fine young talent to push him as well as a group of highly regarded TE's...What they do to fix the 5 players up front are going to dictate the success or failure of this team...The coaches that left for better jobs were replaced by equally if not better coaches with plenty of experience and past success...There really are no excuses anymore...We will find out next fall if they got this fixed or not...It truly is as simple as that...
@the-funeral-director I believe the WR’s are studs but the RB’s are below average for Penn St standards and will be backups next year when Singleton shows up. The defense will be good if Diaz can get ‘em off the field on 3rd and long. I hope there’s a QB competition and James Franklin let’s the best man play and I believe it may be CV. Right now I believe what you see is what you get so James Franklin has a chit pot full of work to do to get me back having confidence in him. I have absolutely no confidence in the OL coach FD and as of today he’s still the coach so I don’t see the OL improving. This is what I see today. Just being honest.
You get 5 road graters out there and an average running back looks like Jim Brown...James Franklin is a fine coach...I believe that...He didn't forget how to coach...He has won a lot of games...I have to believe he is well aware of the situation with his offensive line and his top priority for this upcoming season will be to get this fixed...I honestly believe his job depends on it...
In order to fix the O'line, there had better be something in the pipes; 2022 will be a reflection of what's in the pipes; as we like to say, it takes 3-4 years to develop lineman.
I agree with you Homer but I can tell ya he better have something in "the pipes" cause if he don't and this OLine plays like it did this season he is gonna be fired...His job depends on it this year...
@psu61 I don’t believe you get 3 or 4 years to develop OL these days you get 1 or 2 years but regardless James Franklin has been here 8 years and the last 2 years we’re 11-11 with 4* players at every position and we can’t beat Arkansas with Clifford healthy and it was the offense that beat us in the bowl game not the defense.

Exactly my point Southern.
It will be a 4 man competition between Clifford, CV, Allar, and Pribula. I think Clifford will be the guy though
@roaminglion Clifford has reached his potential imo but CV will keep gettin better but if it’s Clifford I’m good with it if he’s the best QB. While playing at Penn St I don’t show favorites just because I like a player I want the best players on the field.
You could have peyton manning at QB and if he don't get this OLine squared away it won't matter...It's the only position group on the team that has me concerned...

I still think Clifford will be beat out for the starting QB position and will enter the portal in the spring.
