I would recommend a Padron 1926 Series. About $18-$20 a cigar. Very nice full bodied cigar! I personally like any Padron product.

Depends on your budget...On the lower end you can't go wrong with a Romeo y Julieta or Camacho...Ashton is a very consistant smoke, Fuente, La Gloria Cubana, Rocky Patel, Montecristo, La Aroma de Cuba, Cohiba, Hoyo de Monteray...All fine smokes...If you wanna go big Davidoff and Fuente opus X are tremendous smokes as well...Perdomo, liga prevada are also fine smokes...Oliva is also a great smoke as well...The list goes on and on and I am sure I am missing some...Oh yeah Macanudo is another fine smoke...LOL

@the-funeral-director What is your opinion of those "cigar clubs" you see in the coupon inserts from the Sunday paper or find in your mail box where you can buy 20 name brand cigars for a ridiculously low price? Are they legit? Also, what is your favorite bourbon for the $ value?

The "cigar clubs" that you are discussing aren't a bad deal for the money...They send you an eclectic variety of decent hand rolled cigars that aren't bad...It's a nice intro into cigars...The most important thing for a novice cigar smoker is to properly learn how to clip a cigar and how to properly light it...I have smoked some $50 cigars that were garbage and $5 cigars that were absolutely fabulous so don't think just cause a cigar is high priced that it is good...As far as bourbon's go I am not an expert by any means but I prefer Makers Mark...I know Buffalo Trace is the hot bourbon right now but I am a Makers Mark guy...In my younger days I enjoyed Jack Daniels #7 green label as well...

I want to correct my friend the pipe...He mentioned a "belicoso cuban"...Belicoso is the shape of the cigar not a brand domestic or foreign...There are many "belicoso cuban" cigars and I have come across many cuban cigars and regularly smoke them myself...I have never seen any cigar cell for $1900 dollars for a box of 20...Usually bundled cigars come in packs of 20 and MOST cigars come 24 in a box...Some special edition cigars will come in boxes of 10 or even 18 (which is rare)...If you want to see cuban cigar prices go to ihavana.com and check out their selection...To give you an example I purchased 3 top tier priced cigars just before new year...1 was the Davidoff chef series which comes out once a year and those cigars are $50 a cigar...They also came out with a la tigre cigar for 2022 being the year of the tiger and those cigars have tiger stripes in the tobacco and a box of 10 was $595...I also picked up 2 Cohiba Spectre cigars which were $100 a piece and even a box of those was only $1100...the most expensive box of cigars I have ever seen was a box of 100 special edition cigars put out by Monticristo a couple years back and even that box was $1995 and you got 100 cigars...I just don't want any of you guys to be confused and to know that belicoso is the shape of a cigar and not the name of a cigar...You have parejo which is the traditional shape, box press which is a square shaped cigar, belicoso which is a round cigar rolled to a point that you clip to smoke the cigar and a torpedo which is thickest at the end you light and tapers down to a point at the end like a belicoso...Man I love cigars!!!

Cigars are like women or wine, you can get pointed in the right direction, but you have to experiment to find what you like best.

Also, size does matter, (Cosmo be damned!) the bigger the ring gauge, typically the cooler and longer the smoke...in my mind more flavorful. If you're a cigarette smoker, you may find the thinner cigars more to your liking.

You are absolutely correct BT...There are so many different sizes, shapes, wrapper selections, binder and filler selections...It's really up to the smoker as to preference...I am partial to box press but my favorite cigar is the Montecristo #2 torpedo...

Yep, box pressed are easier to chomp on. Robusto if you only have time for a quickie. My favorite, that I probably can't (or maybe too cheap?) afford to buy anymore, but I still have a few in the humidor Montecristo "A" Habana. They're so smooth smoking you almost want to use a roach clip on 'em when they start to burn your fingers.

Maduro for a change of pace. Usually like Dominican or Nicaraguan. As for brands, I'm pretty much a slut, will try anything once.

So the Cigar I did ended up smoking on new years eve was a Saint Luis Rey. I rarely smoke these things, usually just on special occasions or once in a while out fly fishing someone will hand one to me. I'm obviously not an expert but have to say that SLR was one of the best I've had.

SLR is a fine full bodied smoke...That is an old line cuban cigar...You made a fine choice Homer...I believe they make them in Honduras these days but that cigar's history goes back to Cuba...I am as we speak sitting in my leather chair by the fire enjoying a LaGloria Cubana box press with a johnny walker black...Life is good gentlemen...

Also works pretty well on those microscopic biting bugs they have in Central PA that we call no-see-ums.
