Is it really a secret what coaches are doing on offense?  A coach that wants to improve can learn a lot from watching film?  Not as good/quick as being tutored by a master but this stuff isn't top secret?  I mean you don't have to be a progressive coach.  Steal with pride, coach the techniques, and use what works.

The most difficult part must be teaching players what the defense is showing and what to do in the RPO.  That being said a QB that can scramble and extend plays, a tall receiver that can rebound and a superstar running back makes everone look brilliant.

I imagine some coaches are supervisors, I define a supervisor as someone that can run a system that is given to them.  Managers solve problems and improve systems.  Franklin as an elite coach should be able to tell the difference within 6 months.

If it was that easy, things would be very different. But there's a reason people want to study under others, and constantly go to camps to learn directly from coaches.

And it's not because you can learn it all through film.

@bobs-dimpled-chin

You are 100% wrong... Rahne was only in his second year as an OC and made much needed changes to the offense.  Rahne is young and has a lot to learn so in that regard we only saw the tip of the iceberg.

Bumping this up as Bowen will be the OC for Bowl game

Tyler Bowen, the team’s current tight ends coach, will call plays for the game after the previous offensive coordinator, Ricky Rahne, left after the end of the regular season for the head coaching job at Old Dominion.

“Tyler is stepping into that responsibility, very similar to how Ricky Rahne did in the past,” Franklin said.
