Lots of things to improve on, but I think making that last winning drive is going pay BIG10 dividends down the road!! Just how good was Purdue? They have a very high chance of NOT losing another regular season game......did you look at their schedule? And THAT QB is probably about as good as we will face outside of Ohio State.
I think there were more positive moments tonight than negative. They will fix the mistakes that were made and I think we see a much better team next weekend. I under estimated Purdue, they are a better team than I expected them to be.
GO STATE!!!
I agree, Purdue is a better team than they get credit for. We held a 72% passer to barely 50% passing, that's not bad. Though as you said a lot to improve on. Hoping that the drive gives us a good deal of confidence moving forward.
We should be 5-0 going into October, and those 3 games against Michigan, Minnesota, and Ohio State will be a gauntlet.
I’ll watch the second half tonight when I get home but regardless of whatever happened we got the win. Find a way to win and apparently that’s what happened. I told y’all Purdue is always pretty dang good at QB and them kids are very smart football players that’s why they’re so dam hard to beat. First game on the road to start the season on Thursday night playing a team that’s good at QB and winning, I’ll take that all day long brother. Just win the game, he’ll yeah 😂 probably a little different but do y’all remember that road game we found a way to win against NW in 05? What a season that year?
IMO, and it's early, this team isn't going to hold up for the entire season unless the O' and D' Lines get their act together.
I'm guilty of taking the Boilermakers too lightly and learned a lesson about expecting blowouts. Overall, it was a good win off that final drive. My biggest takeaway is not really anything new. Cliff needs to be more consistent. Some nice passes along with some horrible throws. Hopefully we can build off this win, improve in all areas and go on to a great year.
@rip the goat joe Paterno said you improve more after the first game than any other. The man won 409 games so I believe he knew what he was talking about. I just like reminding the ole snake 🐍 how many games the goat won. He knows he just needs to be reminded a few times a year 😂
Right on all counts, Southern. Look forward to seeing some improvement. JoePa knew what he was talking about! Clifford's being erratic at times and running back by committee still concerns me though.
@rip I just can’t understand why we don’t play the best RB because it was clear as a sunny day that Singleton was the best RB and he’s only going to get better. It drives me nuts watching the best RB sit the bench when we’ve been struggling to get the run going. I know all of ‘em are trying but best players play. I gotta get home and watch the second half and I can’t wait. Figure I’d have a 14 hour day when I’m dying to get home lol
Agree about the RB's. Rotation disrupts getting in a rhythm. Have a safe trip home buddy.
@psujoe I’ve only watched the first half and #10 looked best to me but I haven’t watched the second half yet. #10 looked great on what few carries I seen him get last night. Maybe Allen looked better in the second half?
Purdue is pretty good. We don't need to complain as much as Iowa fans...beat FBS team by 2 safeties or VTECH?
Any of those RB's is good, when the D isn't loading the box and the Offensive Line performs. I think we can open up the run game with some good passing to TE's and backs. Put those LB's in jeopardy more.
Not a bad game and we had a rookie back and QB that looked pretty good. I started to wine about the defensive line and LB's but honestly this team just seems to be above average everywhere at this point, not impressive anywhere. But we only have 1 game as a data point.
@psujoe I totally agree. He runs with a purpose and that's to go forward hard.
