Man have we fell off or what. No top 25 ranking from Penn St. I guess the record speaks for itself. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/32999406/the-2022-way-too-early-college-football-top-25
Jimmy's rep is wearing thin and people are starting to see the predicament we're in with him as our log term coach.

Maybe this is a good thing!!
2021.....Preseason #19 went to #4 and finished unranked!
2020....Preseason #7 and finished unranked!
2019....Preseason #15 and finished #9
2018....Preseason #10 and finished #17
2017....Preseason #6 and finished #8
2016....Preseason "Unranked" and finished #7 and won the Big10 championship. Beat Ohio State and should have been in the playoffs as far as I am concerned!
Maybe, just maybe 2022 is the year they claw their way back up and make Southerns weekly top 5 AGAIN!!!
GO STATE!!!!
The trend is likely to continue.
No one in their right mind would put PSU in their top 24. Unless Yurcich pulls off a miracle it's gonna be the roughest year since the early 2000's.MSU and Meatchicken have caught up and passed us and pathetic Maryland is nipping at our heels.

@psujoe understand what you’re saying but we’re much better at QB than we were back then so it won’t be that bad I’m thinking 8-4 this year. Michigan has definitely passed us that loss to them last year set us back 3 years on beating Michigan again. Some losses have consequences and that loss was brutal. I sure hope Franklin can come up with something. 8-4 in Franklins 9th year ain’t going to cut it but we might just have to deal with it. I’m use to watching GT and the Falcons so it’s still better than that lol

If we didn't have 2 QB's prepared to play in 2021 why will things be different in 2022? I'm Looking at the schedule right now and don't see any way of getting to 8 wins. I only see 2 games that should be guaranteed W's which is Ohio and Central Mich. Auburn,Meatchicken and OSU will most likely be ugly losses and we'll probably go 1-1 vs Purdue and NW. Games vs the rest of the teams on the schedule MD,RU,MSU,IU and MN I see as tossups at this point in time. I tried to warn you guys about JF after he was exposed in the back to back OSU choke jobs but no one on this forum wanted to listen. It's way too early but as of now I'm predicting 6-6 or 5-7. The only thing that can save this season is a miracle on offense by Yurcich and by picking up impact players from the portal at LB,DE and and obviously O'line.

I shouldn't have said "save the season" because obviously it doesn't need saved yet but IMO we desperately need impact players from the portal at a few positions to make 2022 successful.

Going 8-4 in 2022 would be a huge accomplishment. I have to ask Southern. How do you see a 8-4 record in 2022? Lots of shoes to fill. 6-6, 5-7 sounds more reasonable at this time.
I keep hearing that Franklin is a great recruiter. If that were true, each year you reload, not rebuild. The results tell the story.

He is a great recruiter but is mediocre at developing the talent and a lousy game manager. I've read that a lot of the players that are leaving PSU for the draft this year are a lot better NFL prospects than they ever showed in college. What does that say about our current coaching staff?
Prog
I don't disagree with you, but....These players ALSO need to step up. I didn't REALLY see a leader out this year that I would call a leader. Especially on Offense. If it was supposed to be Clifford, well he failed miserably! The defense played well, but they too made some mistakes that were costly in several games. The offense didn't do them any favors, but there were several big plays that they just down right blew.
I think we all agree the coaching is suspect now!! And has been! But the overall play of the team is just not there. And I am not so sure coaching can correct this, it has to come from the guys on the field. Lets face it, the offensive line knew they were a problem. They can read, so they knew what was being said about them. But yet, game after game, it was the same old same old and one would think they would take it upon themselves to quiet their critics....and they never did!
You can do a lot in 8 months. Forget the coaches right now, if these players want to make an impact next season, they have to put some extra time and effort into it. Did you ever watch the movie STRIPES? When their leader got bombed and wasn't around to finish training? Well, maybe these kids need to watch THAT movie and take it upon themselves to get it DONE!!!
Coaching is one thing, and I am surely not a fan of them! But I just don't see that fire in the belly up in Happy Valley!

@mtnittanylion I blame 90% of the last 2 years going 11-11 on the coaches.
Too many *'s!!! I know I'm going to get blasted for this, but in my opinion our recruiting has been going in the wrong direction. Screw the 4* & 5* prima donnas and get back to recruiting kids that have a chip on their shoulder because they were rated 2* & 3*. Look for the kid that has the physical attributes, is coachable and wants to prove the rating services wrong. That takes a lot more work on the part of the coaches that are doing the recruiting than simply relying on the * rating. It also puts the onus on the coaches to develop the talent they bring in. IMO this is especially important when recruiting the "grunts" (read OL men).
In the game against Arkansas, Franklin looked lost.
It pains me to say this, but PSU isn't finishing any better than 6-6 if the O'line isn't significantly improved, IMO, its that simply and it doesn't matter who plays QB.
As far as QBs go, they didn't get their stars on their own, they did have an O'line and skill players to support. DA was an exceptionally gifted QB in HS against the talent he played against; D1 ball at a P5 program is a whole different game; DEs out run you, D'line pushes over O'line, and CBs have closing speed, well most do, lol. ..
I'm excited to see the new guys play, but if Clifford is the starter and remains the starter and we are losing, forget it. I'd rather give the new guys a chance than to keep what you know on the field, same goes for coaching; JF, get out of the way and let MY and MD do their thing.
I think what has to be taken into account is that each year it gets a harder to win on talent alone when you stop achieving with that advantage; and your opponents of lesser talent are coming at you with a concerted full on game plan. Wanna see a 7-5 or better record with 2022 schedule, better get the O'line fixed and shore up the D losses, IMO.
Recruiting rankings aren't automatically gonna win you games!
I was on the 40 yard line, 30 rows up from the field and right behind the team. At one point, the team was in a huddle ( during a TO) and Franklin was a good 20 yards away from them....with his clipboard facing the wrong way hanging around his next. If any coach across the field had a good set of binoculars.....they could have read every play on the clipboard. NOT that would have done Arkansas any good! Probably had his next vacation spot written down! Surely didn't have any How to Beat Arkansas notes!!!

@mtnittanylion another bad year and he’s going to be much richer with a boat load of free money 💰 only in American 🇺🇸 😂
