If Georgia and Michigan hold serve, it will be #2 Michigan vs. #3 Washington.

Either Michigan gets to the title game, or the Big Ten loses it's 5th straight CFP game. Losing to the SEC three times, Big 12 once, and the Pac 12 once.

At that point, how could you even begin to argue the Big Ten is better than those conferences? We keep losing. At a certain point you can't say it's choking anymore... just have to admit the Big Ten isnt as good as we think.

Sure hope Michigan can win.

Clearly this post is aimed at at particular poster. However, I’ll jump in and say no you can’t argue BIG is better. Different schemes and styles. Our defense is top 5 no doubt but we’re not going to “over power’” teams like this at line of scrimmage and would be at big disadvantage being BIG offenses are overall not creative and would be something they haven’t defended all year. QB play is elite as far as college level with both these teams tonight. We can/could beat these these teams but IMO we are under matched offensively and would be an underdog.

The difference of coaching to win with what you have compared to winning the games you should with a more talented roster in hopes of job security

I’ll add I’m a James Franklin supporter. He is and stands for what JoePa did in an entirely different era and environment. I’ll take 9/10 wins a year all day “doing it the right way” it is THE PENN STATE way. But damn it if there is one program that could do that and compete occasionally for a title in today’s CFB world it’s the best damn university in the world. JF has made an incredible amount of mistakes in game coaching but I’m sure more than made up for it with everything outside the game we watch. You don’t have to have the most talented roster to win and PSU certainly is more than enough talented to do so. Hopefully next year IF we lose those big games it’s because our guys were outplayed and not out schemed or coached.

I’m pulling for Washington to beat Michigan. The only time I’ll ever pull for Ohio St and Michigan is if they’re playing Georgia. I also like the QB at Washington that dude can play.

Also if the B1G loses again it makes PSU look a lot worse than some people think and blows that theory that “there’s only 4 teams in the country that can beat us” to pieces.

@psujoe  we beat the PAC champs last year in their backyard. Let’s start basing everything on wins and losses and stop the excuses. We beat Utah..period! We had one of our best players out too. What’s the excuse when we beat Washington a few years ago when we took Barkley out every time we took a 14 point lead and Washington was PAC champs that year. I’m telling you what happens when we play so I don’t want to hear that was 5 years ago. The games were played and we beat the shit out of ‘em…that’s what happened. To be fair we got our ass kicked by Kentucky so there you go, no excuses.

@roaminglion  Good hard fought game for USC I’ve never complained about that loss. USC finished 3rd that season, it happens.

USC finished 3rd in the Pac 12 too. And our QB didnt get hurt in the game either.

@roaminglion I’m not making excuses, we lost and any time we play anybody their QB is subject to get hurt. Penn St has always been built on defense ain’t nothing changed. The Michigan QB McCarthy said he could hardly walk after the game this year and Michigan has the studs that can block. Penn State has built a reputation of getting to the QB and if the QB runs that’s a gamble he takes.

So because it strenghens your argument here... "Penn State is always build on defense"

But in the other threads, you can't even bring yourself to admit that our defense was really good in 2019. All you keep saying is we won the Cotton Bowl and the defense stunk in that game.

You say nothing when consistently confronted with the facts that our defense was ranked #8 that year, and the offense let us down in both losses. Nope... that doesnt matter because "Cotton Bowl"

Seems legit... If MY wasnt fired and our offense played really well againt Tulane in a bowl game, would you be arguing that the offense is why we went 11-2?

BS excuses, sorry but they are.

"Big 12 offenses are only good because defenses are soft" Then Michigan's defense gets blitzed by TCU... "Michigan Choked"

Utah's QB gets hurt... "Doesnt matter, made no difference"

3rd place PAC 12 school beats Big Ten champ: "hard fought game", 2nd place Big Ten team barely beats Pac 12 champ in 2021... "Proves the Pac 12 is soft"

There is always an excuse that explains away anytime a Big Ten team loses, and treats every win by the Big Ten as proof of how good we are.

I said the defense stunk it up in the bowl game so stop making things up I’ve never said the defense was bad that year. When you win 11 games the offense and defense is good.

TCU and K-State were soft, check out what Georgia and Alabama done to’em. You said last year the big 12 was the best conference..give me a break

Talk about making things up... where did I say you said "the defense stunk that year". It's nowhere in my post.

Also... my entire point is and always has been that your statement of "When you win 11 games the offense and defense is good" is completely wrong. Iowa has won 10 games, if they win 11 is that proof their offense is good? It's not true.

WTF are you talking about, you accuse me of making stuff up then said I stated the Big 12 was the best conference?

Also... if TCU was soft what does that make Michigan? Charmin soft?

@southern-psu-fan

Me last year to you Southern:

"You are so dismissive of TCU... don't forget, the Big 12's WORST TEAM beat the #1 team in the Big Ten West. I would be so flippant about the Horned Frogs, the Big 12 isn't bad"

Your response: "tbe big 12 stinks and TCU will get destroyed in the playoffs..."

Somehow from that discussion you've convinced yourself that me saying the Big 12 "isnt bad" is saying they are the best conference.

You've also concocted some story that you would have been right about TCU if only Michigan hadnt choked. Or maybe you'll try and say you were right that they did get destroyed, because Georgia beat em... but everyone knows damn well you were talking about the first game.

You said TCU was soft, that the Big 12 sucked, and that they would get destroyed in the semis. You were completely wrong. Deal with it.

@roaminglion  when you say I can’t bring myself to say our defense was good in 2019 is the reason I took it that way. 97% of the time If we win 10 or more games it’s because we have a dominating defense but that doesn’t mean our offense ain’t good. We’re not Iowa on offense. When we have the right QB we can get wins against both teams but we have to have the right QB. IMO the 2019 offense was dang good, just not good enough to beat Ohio St. I believe we got screwed at Minnesota that year for a very questionable call in the end zone late in the game.

I never said it doesn't mean our offense ain't good. I said it's not THE reason we won 10 games. You tend to say things like "When you are 10-2 it means your offense is good" - NO IT DOES NOT. Our overall record doesn't mean an offense is good or bad. Winning 10 games doesn't mean our defense is good. It just means we won 10 games. You look at how the offense and defense performed during the season to see if they were good or not, not just point at a record and say it's proof that unit was good.

Iowa won ten games and their offense stinks. It happens. That is proof that winning 10 games doesn't MEAN your offense is good.

No worries, I certainly come across as grouchy too I am sure! But I know you can take it so. LOL!

Sorry to hear about your back, I hope you feel better soon. Enjoy the games, I assume you are watching some Bama.
