Small rant here, but does anyone else roll their eyes or just laugh when these kids release a "statement" about entering the portal on X? (twitter)

It's always some phony thing about loyalty or how they loved the school they are leaving... or some cherry picked Bible verse using God as some kind of out for them because he told them to move on or something.

It's just so phony, just enter the portal and move on, I don't need to see your contrived statement about it. I'll say there are good ones though... some players do sound heartfelt... but those are always the senior or graduating guys. I'm talking about some freshman or sophomore who's moving on for more playing time, and acting like Jesus told them to transfer. It's annoying I guess.

IMO, something needs to happen to structure the options, e.g.

  1. voluntary enter portal, sit out one year.
  2. coach tells you to hit the road, hit portal and eligible to play as long as not for previous coach; otherwise follow a coach and sit out a year.
  3. any NIL money could be treated as a merit raise e.g. perform and get paid at the end of the season including bowl game. If you opt out of bowl game, then NIL money is prorated.
  4. transfer and your NIL starts all over.
  5. do away with extra years and make college ball a 4 year deal regardless of hangnails, broke legs, warts on the ass.
  6. Redshirt is fine, no NIL money, sit your freshman year, still have 4 years left which would then cover the 5th year for grad school.

Can't help but think this is an IRS nightmare just like with the pros playing and being paid in various states.

Anyways just some rambling thoughts.
