Here's something interesting... Do you think the NCAA could institute a rule that states any coach signing a contract has to stay at least 3 years at his job before they can move somewhere else "unless fired"?
Doesn't seem like a bad idea to me. When a coach signs a contract, the NCAA could stipulate that it contains a "non-compete" clause in it that says a coach can leave after three years and move to another school, however if they leave beforehand they have to sit out a year before the NCAA lets them take another position.
Seems fair?
That seems perfectly fair to me, Roam. Personally, I'd love to see it! The only problem I can see is what employment law has to say about it. Coaches are paid employees and have certain legal rights as employees that student athletes don't have as non-employees.
Yeah, that could be an issue but I've seen non-compete clauses all over the place before so I wonder why this would be so different. I'm sure there's a way to get it done, but alas probably no desire to do it.
I'd think that individual schools might be able to get away with a non-compete clause as they are the employer. However, I would be surprised if the NCAA could mandate each contract contain a non-compete clause. I believe most coach's contracts currently contain a buy out clause. Maybe the buyout provision is as far as the schools can legally go. Just thinking out loud.
Lastly... Pardon my determination in the post thread, tedious work on the computer today has me checking in often 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Basically every 5 minute break I can take from my comp work is very, very needed at the moment. Pure data entry today and it's sooooooooo tedious.
Geez Roam, if you think you've got it rough being enployed try retirement some time. You have no idea what pressure is. Imagine waking up and having to check the calendar just to see what day it is. Imagine the stress in deciding whether to fish a stream or a lake; live bait or artificial and the list goes on and on. Step into my world for just one day and you'll see what stress really is. Do you think its easy sitting in an ice shack waiting for a flag to tip up?? Stay in the work force Roam, you're not ready for the real world yet.
PS......Thanks to ALL of you for you SS contributions.......keep 'em coming!!

I'm dreading all the stress that will come with retirement, thank the lord I still have many years of working at my computer and getting my work done before deadlines to go. I have no idea how I am going to handle all the fishing, attending sports games, and all the other "recreational activities".
Sounds miserable, no wonder people in retirement drink a lot of beer. Stress relief and remembering the good ole days I'm sure!
Roam, as Tsuga says, retirement is damn stressful. You don't think you have enough time in the day now, you just wait! No clue how I got things done while I was working....'cause I can't get everything done with all my "free time" available.
Put me down as a hater too, Southern. Life is just getting too damned complicated for a person of my age. LOL
I'll be saying "get off my lawn" before you know it!
Exactly mb. We lost some good players this year and if we lose this many next year we’ll definitely take a hit with experience. Most true freshman ain’t ready to play.
No they're not. Remember back in the good old days (LOL) when freshman were ineligible and weren't allowed to play. That was for good reasons. Aside from physical maturity it was felt that they needed the freshman year to get used to the academics and college life. Joepa was a firm supporter of this rule and even after the NCAA made freshman eligible to play, he rarely played them. He did change his position several years later due to the need to stay competitive with the other schools, but he said many times that he didn't like it.
Lol I recall a good friend and frat brother of my father's at PS, who would go up to State College the day before to watch the JV's play. He wanted to get an idea who was going to playing next year on Saturday afternoons.
Hey Tsuga , I'm right there with you, I just got back from my fourth medical appointment this week--can't beat it.

I did that myself quite a few times!
