Gotta get some better teams on the schedule because rather it’s here or espn sports ain’t much to debate beating Nevada, FIU and Villanova. These weals schedules could bite us in the butt. I’m wondering if we could’ve scheduled a team from the big 10 as a OOC game like USC and the game counts as an OOC game? If so that’s the way to go. 1 gimme game is plenty imo
Our non conference schedule is pathetic and it doesn’t get any better next season. It’s been going on for too long and when we get punished for scheduling these parties the administration gets 100 percent of the blame.
That was supposed to say PATSIES not parties. Damn autocorrect got me again
The reality is that teams need a few games before they hit their stride. Playing early-season games against opponents that offer multiple challenges provides opportunities for growth. However, having FIU and Villanova on the schedule is probably not very helpful, and the potential for team growth may be limited.
Another aspect to consider is the health of the players. There is always a risk of injury. It would be good to know if there is a correlation between the level of competition and the risk of injury? Are less skilled players more likely to play in a manner that puts others at risk? Torrence Brown was taken out by a low block during the game against Georgia State back in 2017 (Georgia State Panthers vs. Penn State Nittany Lions Live Score and Stats - September 16, 2017 Gametracker - CBSSports.com). The injury ended his career as a player. Fortunately, he is now working in the coaching profession ( One-time Penn State defender leaves program for on-field role ).
I dunno, Tae. More highly skilled players may have honed their skills on getting away with illegal tactics that can potentially cause injury(e.g. chop block, etc) and be more inclined to use them!
I don't like the schedule from the standpoint that we play one of our biggest games after 4 'off weeks'. I'd feel better if we had one middling game of the three. Other than that the schedule doesn't hurt us as long as we are 1 or 2 in B10.
Big 10 needs to go to 10 conference games.
@roaminglion why? Another big 10 game would be better. 2 gimme games is enough
Big 10 needs to go to 10 conference games.
No we need to schedule more competitive non conference games! That was a total shit show on Saturday and wasn’t worth the $ for gas to drive up. No way in hell I will sit through more games like that this season and it’s really sad that they have to blast music throughout the stadium every game stoppage and have sing alongs to keep the students interested.
@southern-psu-fan Sure! If all the other conferences go to 10 conference games.
I’d even be ok with us putting sPitt back on the schedule and playing at their stadium every other year. Anything to make the non conference games more interesting.
Why do we almost always have one of the worst non conference schedules in the B1G?
Penn State won’t change until it starts too affect them adversely, there’s too much risk. If they beat Oregon and Ohio State then no one will even mention these games again, it’s only relevant because you see other big name programs doing it and those who won LSU, FSU, Miami and OSU are all reaping the spoils. The smaller schools love it because it shines a light on them and they get a fortune to become a sacrificial goat. The reality is Penn State can continue to get away with these easily no matter how embarrassing it is because an increase in non conference opponents just isn’t required right now, I hate it too but if you can make the playoffs with your best wins at Illinois last year why change?
Tulane absolutely trashed Northwestern. I'd rather.play Tulane. Purdue is absolute garbage, and Rutgers, Maryland, etc are nothing to write home about either.@roaminglion why? Another big 10 game would be better. 2 gimme games is enough
Pick a better team to play OOC, just because it's a Big Ten team doesn't mean it's a good game.
@roaminglion the big 10 can let teams pick 3 teams to play every year instead of 2 and Penn St could pick Michigan, Ohio St and USC. Penn St elected not to pick 2 teams that’s why we’re not playing Michigan. If you like Nevada, FIU and Villanova as OOC teams then I guess it’s good with you but I’d rather play Michigan or USC. I don’t mind 2 patsies but 3 is garbage.
Marshall, temple and buffalo and no Ohio St next year…that sucks. How do we no play Ohio St smh
The big 10 needs to step up and make Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Penn St play each other every year and they really shouldn’t have to the teams should want to play the games every year.
Penn St, USC, Ohio St, Michigan and Oregon should play games every year then 3 gimme games will be okay imo. That’s 4 tough games a year for each team. I’m not scared to put Penn St up against the heavyweights I believe we can play with anybody. You talking about an exciting season that would be a dream team schedule. Season ticket holders would love it.
All teams do it, some more than others. Most resonanble Fans despise having to sit around for one month waiting to see a high intensity game. A game that keeps your heart racing and adrenaline pumping. Just because others do it doesn't mean it's an ok thing to do.
This is college football, not some local township pee wee flag football team. 🙄
@southern-psu-fan What sense does it make to have the same top of the league teams, play each other, every year? They beat the excrement out of each other and the lesser B1G teams would have better records, go to the championship.
Put all the names in a hat, random schedule selection.
You're right, BT. They probably would beat the Sheetz out of each other. That's ok though, they would be "good" losses and worth more than the bad wins against lesser teams!
@been-there-ii there’s only 5 heavyweights in the big 10 so it would only be 4 rough games out of 14 weeks. Spread ‘em out brother. They getting paid now BT 😂
@southern-psu-fan lol I respectfully disagree. If PSU was a lesser team, you'd be saying, Why can't we play with the big boys, so we can prove ourselves!?! Random selection, odds are we'd play a couple of them, big dogs and Paris Hilton lap dogs.
Or do a bit more to get better OOC games?
Gotta be a happy medium somewhere. Kinda like the standard time vs daylight savings. Why not settle on a 1/2 hr between both and stop messin' around changing time 2x a year? Best of both worlds, sort of. I'm sure there's a reason we can't, but that's above my pay grade, nor do I have the need to know.
Other teams have to be willing to play. Yeah it all sounds well and good but PSU can't just pick Michigan and say "hey we're playing you so make room on your schedule" LOL@roaminglion the big 10 can let teams pick 3 teams to play every year instead of 2 and Penn St could pick Michigan, Ohio St and USC.
Also, don't start that nonsense where you say "If your okay with Villanova..." which I never said. I said I'd rather play Tulane (who is a good team) than Northwestern (who is god awful)
You don't need to have 10 Big Ten games to play another good team. Just schedule good teams OOC. If Ohio State can schedule Texas, and Michigan can schedule Oklahoma, so can we. I'd rather play those teams than be locked in to another Big Ten game when every other conference is playing 9.
