I am not going to come down on the coaches, I am just going to read what YOU all post and take the high road.  But let me tell you something, I see three wins (maybe four) based on what I witnessed today.  Don't even watch next weeks game, go to the movies or trick treat with your friends!

And for crying out loud....would somebody sign these coaches up for a math class.  Specifically, teach them how to divide 1min 45secs by 30 to the one power (timeouts remaining by an apposing team).  And then take the remaining time and divide it by 80 yards.

Good grief!!

1994.   Crush Indiana or quietly pack your possessions and leave.  There is no other alternative if you are an honorable man.

I recently posted about this season being a mess. Seriously,  don't take it seriously.  Covid took toll on just about everything.  Missing players,  inconsistent practices,  coaches testing positive, delays and it goes on.

I agree, while frustrating and hard to watch... I said before I was never going to be fully invested in this season like other seasons. 2020 will always be asterisk year for me, too many teams in uneven situations.

The adversarial components of covid are experienced equally by all teams. The loss to Indiana was a bad reflection on Penn State’s football program. It also exposed the inadequacies of the coaching staff. Regardless of anyone’s degree of emotional investment in the 2020 season, PSU being defeated by the lesser team, xucks the same as any other year.

Regardless of Covid or any other factor, the bottom line is you don't lose a game by making a stupid mistake like time mgmt, especially in the situation as yesterday. Between 1) we are young, 2) rebuilding 3) get rid of this coach and bring someone else in 4) next year will be the year......... Its ridiculous; bottom line is put up or shut up, a bunch of other teams are facing the same challenges year in and year out and some rise to the occassion; I expect a program like PSU to consistently rise to the occasion, otherwise we are a 2nd/3rd tier program/team.

Did y’all miss the stats yesterday where Penn State is the 2nd best team in the big 10 since 2016? #2 in all the stats that matter. We’re having 11 win seasons and winning the big 10 championship, winning fiesta and cotton bowls playing in the Rose Bowl and y’all want to get rid of the coach because of one loss? It’s 1 bad game guys and we’re breaking in a new OC. The loss is definitely on James Franklin but wanting him gone is way overreacting.

I also seen 2 or 3 runs yesterday had journey Brown been playing he would’ve took it to the house. #24 looked really good he’s just young but that kid will be a stud down the road. Absolutely nothing has gone right the last week or so for us but that’s how it goes sometimes we’ve seen times where everything goes right and we will see them days again.

i somewhat agree with you and Roam in that I have very little enthusiasm for any sports during COVID. Where I have problems is in future recruiting. We could never outmatch Ohio State but now does Franklin look over his shoulder with Michigan, Wisconsin and now maybe Indiana. We get a lot of talent from NJ. With their win over Michigan State, will that pipeline slow down?

The problem is it was not just one game Southern. It has been one game a season at least. Imagine, if you will how much more success our team and recruiting would be had we won even half of these games...

2016 / 2017 Rosebowl. Penn State gave up 17 4th quarter points and lost by 3.

2017 Ohio State: Penn State gives up 19 4th quarter points and loses by 1.

2017 Michigan State: Penn State Gives up 6 4th quarter points and lose by 3.

2018 Ohio State:  Penn State Gives up 13 4th quarter points and lose by 1.

2018 Michigan State: Penn State gives up 7 4th quarter points to lose by 4.

2019: Minnesota: Penn State gives up 7 4th quarter points and lose by 5.

2020 Indiana : Penn State gives up 8 4th quarter points and lose by 1.

This is not one game Southern. This is a concerning pattern.  I am not sure this is a Franklin thing or a Pry thing but its been happening for years. If you can't fix it with the current staff then move on.

This summary doesn't even include the many times we have watched us not have good clock management at the end of games. Snapping the ball with plus 10 seconds on it when trying to ice the game. This is through 4 offensive coordinators so I am confident in saying this is a Franklin problem.

Look, Franklin is a good coach and I like him a lot. But selfishly I want a great coach. Somebody who wins these games. Maybe hat can still be Franklin and I hope it is but frankly I am tired of hearing "next year is our year."

@lakerie. Lake, we both know the NE got hit harder with this coronavirus does that hurt Penn State in recruiting? Looks like the players that we have recruited are really good players seven 4* recruits out of 14 ain’t to bad and James Franklin has recruited and developed 3* recruits probably better than any other coach out there? I don’t follow recruiting like some of y’all do I just pay attention to what y’all say or I try to 😂. I wish Murray would come back with his recruiting nuggets

Southern, according to Rivals we are ranked #36 in 2021, Pitt is ranked #21 and Rutgers #24....really sad. In 2020 we are ranked 15 but if my memory serves me we were earlier ranked much higher in that class till a floury of decommits. 2019 was decent at #11,  behind Michigan at #10 but ahead of Ohio State at 21.2018 was our best year at #5 but behind Ohio State at #1. Players recruited that year but gone include Micah Parsons, Ricky Slade, and Justin Shorter. Shorter was a Penn State bust but it also speaks to the numbers of portal transfers. I don't know the numbers and percentages but I thought I heard Penn State had more PT's than any other school. Whether or not that is true it can't be disputed we have had more than our fair share of them. Looking ahead at 2022, we are ranked #3 with Ohio State at #1 and Michigan at #6. Pretty good for now but I won't get my hopes up with how we looked yesterday.

@cavensprawl  all good teams normally lose games late in the 4th quarter not just Penn State. The losses you put up are most of the games we lost the last 5 years. 3 out of the last 4 years we’ve won 11 games winning the fiesta and cotton bowls and we lost the Rose I’m sorry but 98% of the teams out there would trade places with Penn State in a minute. The wins stats show only Ohio st has done a better job than Penn State the last 5 years but the exceptions of Alabama and Clemson nobody is better than Ohio st. Nothing wrong with the football team it was just 1 bad loss and it is a game that was give away by the coaches not the players. I agree we should’ve just taken a knee and we would’ve got the win the coaches had a brain fart.

Absolutely Southern, it was a very tough loss because it didn't have to be.  Spread the blame across the board.  Too many penalties. Special team breakdowns, along with missed FG's.  Clifford was inconsistent.  I believe the jury is still out on our new OC.  Why didn't he call more shots down field? While the defense played well they also had some missed assignments (unfortunately they came at key points in the game).  Given all the above, we could still have won the game if the coaches would have just milked the clock at the end instead of falling into the trap that resulted in scoring our losing TD!  I hope I'm wrong, but I think this is gonna be a tough one to shake off.  This loss may stay with the team for the rest of the year.

That brain fart was roughly a $7 million dollar coaching staff brain fart.

I don't want Franklin gone.  All I'm saying is there are plenty of things that need fixing.  I just want him to fix them.

@southern-psu-fan It is the consistency of losing the same way, how many times they did not kill the clock when they had a choice

It's not the losing that gets to me.  It's HOW we lost that burns my butt.  Its almost as if CJF doesnt learn from his past mistakes.  In my mind, this was the Appalacian St game in reverse.  They scored too early at the end of the game and allowed us enough time to come back and win it.

But in all reality, who else are we going to get to coach?? Y'all that have been with me for the past few years know that I've never been a fan of JF but honest to God I'm trying to support him, I really am, but this is getting very difficult.

Ya gotta give credit to Indiana, they were down to their last gasp and came back off the canvas and took one from us.  My hat's off to them.

There’s Dabo and ole slick Nick out there and I don’t think they’ll leave their jobs for Penn State other than that there’s not another coach out there better than James Franklin. Dabo’s Road is much easier than James Franklin’s because the ACC is pretty much garbage. James Franklin has beat Ohio st and Michigan a few times and dominated everybody else since 2016.

@tsuga

Nailed it!!  I told my father in law the exact same thing.  This game reminded me of the APP State game.  They ( App)  all but had that game in the bag and the coach didn't know how to close it out.

My goodness, I was at the Kentucky vs Penn State bowl game several years ago.  With 4 mins to go, JF punts the ball and that was the end of the game.  I was screaming NOT to give the ball back - and I mean that loud that the players heard me and agreed - and they never saw the ball again.  They were driving, had great skill players and in Kentucky territory.  Either way, they had Kentucky backed up make the 1st or not.

Along with what you and Caven both posted, JF has not progressed to the next level....only in how he speaks.  I am supporting him as well, but he just can't win the big games that count.  Only once, a fluke blocked FG, has JF won a great game.

He has a chance to redeem himself this coming weekend! I can't think of any opportunity - like this upcoming game with Ohio State - to cut a team loose and just let it all hang out. PSU has a very good Oline, speed in the backfield, great TE and and pretty solid Defense for the most part.  They can hang with Ohio State, they really can.  But JF has to play aggressive, play to win and not play to keep it close for 3 quarters in hopes of pulling something out of his butt!

Tired of the same story year after year! If he can't get it done, then times up or quit saying PSU is an elite program.  Losing to MD, Temple and Indiana??? Good Grief!!!

Go STATE!!!

@mtnittanylion  Come on now temple and Maryland games James Franklin was coaching a heavily sanctioned football team. Just to put things in perspective every loss BOB had were a lot worse than any loss James Franklin has had. I only bring this up because you brought up 2 teams that beat us when Penn State was chopped off at the knees. Remember gettin blown out by Ohio State and losing to a garbage Virginia and Ohio team? It’s one game to a pretty good Indiana team. If I see any problems it’s our defense can’t get a stop when it’s nitty gritty crunch time when the games is on the line and it’s happened in a few of our losses but Saturday was just a give away by the coaches. Gotta give some love to the offense because when we needed to score they did and the defense just can’t get a stop, it’s as simple as that.
