The defense looked good today. Cut down on the stupid penalties and put #11 back at LB’s and get #92 on the field that dude is a stud baby.

The offense looked like last year to me except Drew Allar is much better which he should be in year 3. I was very please watching DA throwing and running the dude played his butt off today. It’s the first game and I’m quite confident the offense will be get better under AK but we have to get better running the ball. 3 or 4 espn guys picked WV to win so maybe WV is pretty good. We gotta good football team that will continue to get better. When I say the offense looked liked last year I’m talking about struggling to get the running game going which is very important when we play the heavyweights. Just what I saw though but I’m very pleased with the team because we have a boat load of new starters they get better every game.

I pretty much agree with all you said, Southern.  I was pleasantly surprised with Allar.  He looked really poised, confidant and made good decisions. His running ability is going to give our opponents something to worry about!  Carter needs to stay away from the rat poison (as old Nick calls it) and play the game smart.  I too was disappointed in the running game.  Hope it improves as our OL gains experience.  I wish we would have seen more passes to our TE.  My big question is what's with Fleming & Clifford?  I don't believe either one had a pass thrown his way!  Anyway, it was a real good win against a decent opponent in a tough environment, not to mention the long weather delay!  So far so good and it looks like we'll be playoff bound.

@rip  watching Ga Tech play Ga State and CV is the QB for Ga State and he’s looking pretty good right now. I believe he played for Pitt last year.

It’s hard to judge teams in the first game especially if they have new coaches and QB’s but Michigan UCLA and Oregon are struggling

I was pretty pleased with the overall performance on offense.  Not sure they really struggled too much running the ball.  Last year they averaged 4.7 yards per carry, today they were 5.3.  Last year they averaged 185 yards running per game, today they were 222.   Last year they averaged 400 total yards per game, today they were 457.

My biggest concern is the FG kicker.  We are going to need this guy come October and November.  The Oline looked pretty good today, thought they gave Allar some good pass protection, but need some work opening up holes for the backs.

All in all, they got the job done today and played well on both sides of the ball.  Back home for a 4 game stretch that should give them a chance to to fine tune this team before the meat of the schedule hits.

GO STATE!!!

Why is Washington still playing games that kick off at 11PM EST? I thought part of the reasoning for joining the B1G was the tv contract and ratings

@mtnittanylion 100% it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. PSU has a kicking problem and it will need addressed asap similar to Felkins last year.

You’re comparing one game to an entire season?  I bet you’ll be really excited when you compare next weeks stats to last year!

I personally will wait till we get into the meat of the schedule before comparing this season to last year.

To knock off OS and MICH, the D line is gonna have to muscle up through the season, I think that will be the tell tale sign. Abdul Carter, idk what the hype is about him b/c I did not see him dominate last year nor yesterday, I'm not saying he is not a good football player, I just don't see the "it" factor. If I need new glasses, time will tell.

Offensively, DA showed he was not scared to run the ball, good!

FG kicker has got to get his head cleaned out so his foot can follow!

I think the DE’s were neutralized by the WV QB getting rid of the ball quick and I’m a little more concerned about some of the LB play than I am the D line. Decisions during the game by the coaching staff made it obvious that the kickers are a concern, one of the podcasts I listen to said they were only making 83 percent of their kicks during the pre season.

@psujoe is it me Homer or did 92 look like a freaking beast when he was on the field. He looked better than #11. 11 might be better at LB’r?

I think Carter has been a lot of hype and not much substance since his freshman season. Vilbert definitely had a better game than him and Rojas might be a better linebacker.

Rojas has so much lateral speed it's sick. Looks for the ball and tackles. Kid comes to play!

@rip Hey Bob! Ya know PSU put up over 200 yards on the ground. Kinda tough to run for a TD every time they hike the ball. And as the offensive "guys" said, They haven't even opened up the play book yet.

@been-there-ii the stats absolutely look good but I still believe we need to get better up front. It’s a new OC so it will take a few games to get their feet wet but for the first game it’s was dang good. The QB’s had a good game running but to run on the big dawgs like Ohio St and Georgia they gotta get better. It was a good game for us no doubt. On defense I’m not ready to say Rojas is better than Carter but he is good and I’m excited about him. 92 needs to be on the field I do know that.

I hope 92 ends up like Micheal Haynes finally gets it together and makes some noise.

It’s early in this game but sure looks like USC’s tackling hasn’t gotten much better.

@been-there-ii

Your points are well taken, BT.  Where I was coming from is our RB's only had a combined 158 yds and 40 of that came on Singleton's long run.  In fact, each of our QB's outgained Allen!

The video of Tim Shaw is what I want to see out of Carter.

@rip lol Baby steps! How many 40 yrd runs did we have last year?  And I, for one, am happy to see Allar tuck & run once in a while. As for the rest of the offense, I think they were playing close to the vest...unlike today's kids, why show all your stuff, if you don't need to?

Please invite me to your house for a beer or coffee. I want to see if we are watching the same game.  USC played a solid football game.  Plenty of playmakers on that team.  It will be interesting to see how they develop.

You really are a dumbass. I made that statement after the first 2 series of this game and I knew things could change which is why I said “it’s early”. Only someone as thick headed as you would need that explained.

Reading comprehension once again alluded you.

PSU better be ready to play on 10/12 or they’re gonna get blown out.

Someone forgot to tell USC that since they sucked last year that means they can’t be good this year.
