After 50+ years of watching this stuff,  L's to Mich, Mich State, Ohio State.    7-5.   With one miracle 8-4.

Mr Franklin .... likely gone, but I would question the decision of the new employer.  GREAT recruiter but terrible game coach.

I basically agree with this. Moorehead on the flip side, even though he had a great bunch of players, he knew how to utilize their strengths and adjust; that is his strength as a coach.

@psu61 I agree too...this is why I question whether JF will get the USC job..You, I,and waytoolong, could recruit at USC..AS one   of the talking heads said recently, you walk out your back door, at USC, and talent abounds..

I havent seen a USC roster yet, bereft of talent; their receiver this yr, Drake London, #15, is as good as they come..Their QB, Kevin Slovis, is considered a NFL prospect with Justin Dart waiting in the wings..OL not as good as usual, but this is   a rare problem at USC; least of their problems now..USC always has RBs..

No, their problem is development of the talent on hand, and game day coaching, not perceived JF strengths..If JF loses another game or two, most likely occurrence, I just cant see him getting the  job...USC is not after 9-10 win seasons; they aspire to be in nation's elite, and pursuing national titles..One of nation's most lucrative jobs, despite the competition..

I don't think JF will be going to USC.  It will be either LSU or he stays at PSU....and I am betting on the PSU thing. I think there is another person already being considered for the USC position and JF is currently on the outside looking in.

I look for the next coach at USC to have ties there and to the state of Ca!

@mtnittanylion   I don’t care why we lost the last 2 games but because we lost the last 2 games  James Franklin doesn’t deserve more money. Show me some big wins and stop losing these games we should win on talent alone then he’ll deserve more money. We’re just finding to many ways to lose instead of finding a way to win. I could care less how bad the team is we’re playing and I don’t give a rats butt how close the game is as long as we win. Now playing the big dawgs just win your fair share and the last 2 years we ain’t done any of this. As I’ve said since y’all have known me it’s about play on the field and winning. Winning solves all of your problems unless you’re doing something stupid. No harm done the last 2 weeks if we would’ve just won the dam games.

If JF wants the USC gig, he simply says I recruited the absolute best players available and in the end we just don’t have the recruiting availability that is available in CA for certain positions; QB, O’Line and D’line.  It has nothing to do with player development because we consistently maxed out development as you can see with our consistent performance at the O’line, D’line and QB positions. I’m your man to recruit the 5 star recruits right out the back door and put a NC on the shelf.

Then USC comes back with; okay, what about game clock management, game calling, and do u know the name of our home stadium?

Sorry guys, just a BS day at work and a little humor.

Hell, JF is our man for as long as he wants to be! And, the devil in the details is now known; player development, line play, game clock mgmt, halftime adjustments, and a QB that can play back yard football with a moxie to win.

Unfortunately I don't see Franklin leaving as it appears USC has already cooled on him and he'd be crazy to go to LSU.

Sorry to say it southern but expect more of the same. JF what he is and he ain't changing.

JF IS what he is and he isn't changing.

Figured I better fix that before the spelling/grammar police see it.

Penn State football is the cash cow!!  He will change or he won't be there too much longer. We live in a world where CASH IS KING and that is how it goes....unfortunately.  He loses three more games???? Good luck is all I can say! Start out in the top 10 and finfish outside the top 25 two years in a row - COVID or not - that's a problem!

@psujoe  I disagree remoh. James Franklin is a good coach he just needs to get his head back in the game. I honestly believe he’s distracted about something. He may have something going on that nobody knows anything about he just wasn’t believe himself Saturday. The last time I seen him like that was Michigan St game 2015 he was lost. Big thing is get this team back to finding a way to win he’s done it before and he can do it again. Ain’t much wrong we really had a chance to win these last 2 games we just didn’t get it done. I promise y’all, had we won these last 2 games we all would be happy.

@southern-psu-fan He's definitely a good coach but with all the gaffes and miscues over the years you'd be crazy to call him elite. And I don't ever see him becoming elite.

What do you mean the last time you saw him like that was 2015? You forget about 2020 already?

Sadly PSU has a very complacent fanbase. Take a look around this forum and you'll find posts from members here claiming that wins and losses aren't what matters.

Bottom line is JF is not in the elite class; very few are.

The O'line recruiting, development and play is seriously a ball busting quagmire. It's clearly a symptom of a problem, but seriously, what is the underlying problem? What's the primary difference between an AL, Wisky, OSU, Army, Airforce O'line vs PSU O'line. Just looking back through the stats, the service academies consistently know how to run the ball, and they ain't got bigass slobbers up front, what gives? I think I'd go tap into that line of coaches for some development consultation; maybe even offer a job.

Hell even some NFL teams have chitty O'lines for years.

@southern-psu-fan Not to argue but he is making 6 Mil to not get lost.  I always say if you cannot earn your pay leave and let someone else have a shot at it.

@cohappy   Sometimes you just have a bad day and you can’t do anything right. We still have a good chance to win 10 games if we can get Clifford healthy.

I’ve been reading Clifford will be a 100% Saturday but after watching the Illinois game I just don’t see it you could tell he was hurting. Ole Clifford is one tough dude I know that he lays it all out on the field if he can. We need some guys to step up and make a play to win Saturday. Healthy we can play with anybody but when we get an injury we take to big of a step back. James Franklin has got to get the backups better. I said after the Iowa game Roberson can help us win football games because he’s a great athlete and he’s got good legs and the dude finds a gap and he’s gone. I just don’t understand why you bring in #44 over Roberson. Get Roberson more snaps in the wildcat and QB run plays so when we go into O/T we have a ready to go weapon. He’s also good in throwing shorts passes something  we needed in O/T against Illinois.

@southern-psu-fan I've read reports from a couple beat reporters and they said Clifford has shown no limitations in practice this week and was running full speed.

You need to forget about Roberson and let him enter the portal, Veilleux is the future QB if Clifford isn't back next year.

Could be Drew Allar if he's as advertised. True freshman QBs are becoming more prevalent, wouldn't be surprised to see him or Pribula starting next year also. When Clifford leaves, it seems like we'll have a freshman of some sort starting... redshirt or true.

Well, unless we get some Portal QB which is always a possibility.

I’m still wanting to finish this season out with as many wins possible. We can get 9 or 10 wins this season. I agree with both of y’all he’s not the future but he can help get wins this year in short yardage situations the dude can run and throw on short yardage. He can definitely throw better than #44

I was thinking probably Allar as the backup to start the season and Pribula on the bench but definitely the freshman taking over at the position with Roberson  enrolled somewhere else.

If you are a third year 4 star riding the pine behind an ailing starter against the worst team in the Big10, I'd highly suggest finding a better fit somewhere else. No different than at work getting screwed over for projects etc, don't complain, move on; after all it's a consensual relationship.
