The NCAA Football Rule Book for 2023 clearly states in Rule 1, Section 4, Article 4d that "Knee pads must be covered by pants. Furthermore, the pants and knee pads must cover the knees". The link to the rule book is: 2023-NCAA-Football-Rule-Book.pdf (taso.org)
What other "rules" do the officials routinely ignore? When a "rule" is not enforced, there isn't a rule. What's more insidious is when a rule is not enforced consistently.
During his post-game interview on Thursday, Coach Trent Dilfer said "the officials called a loose game". He also stated that his players committed several holding penalties that were not called.
I've wondered about this myself, TB. Seems like a lot of players are wearing bermuda shorts these days, lol.
Basically going the way of rugby, lol. No knee pads, shoulder pads about the size of the fashionable shoulder inserts used in jackets back in the 80's, get ride of the face mask and hard noggin cap and there you have it. And as Art Donovan said one time, you'll have less head injuries when the helmet is gone due to players not wanting to mess with their pretty faces, lol!
100% on helmets. I knew a high school football coach who advocated getting rid of the face mask as a way to prevent spinal cord injuries.
