I don't really want to go out and find the article again, but a few years back the President of the University of Alabama and the Athletic Director did a presentation listing the money generated by the football program, and how much certain metrics had gone up since Nick Saban had been there. It was a pretty convincing case for paying him that money, because without him they were making a lot less, and not even getting the enrollment they are now.
Say what you will about paying a coach 11.25 million (which much of that comes from donors, not the University itself), if he's increased the profit of the University it's a moot point. If he's bringing in more than he's taking, he's worth it.
Whether you like him or not; Saban has earned his money IMO.
The university needs to ensure their coach makes more than the players.
