How are we feeling? I think we beat MSU, Rutgers and Nebraska with what you saw last night against a 5-2 Iowa in a hostile environment. OSU looks probably most well rounded team in CFB right now. IU is a wild card because I really believe UCLA will upset IU this week. Winning those 3 or 4 games at the end are crucial to end the season on a positive note.
IMO:
- had JF stayed, we would see more of this year next year.
- the O' and D lines have got to get bigger and better, otherwise it won't make a difference.
- the portal needs to be hit hard for a starting QB, lineman, LBs, and WRs
- the new HC is gutting the coaches with the exception of the recruiters that have been mainstays and that is if they want to stay if offered
- next year is going to be a transition year with high expectations for year 2 for the new coach
Rest of this season:
- Rutgers should be a win
- the rest, not likely, as I think the D is gonna give up points as they wear out going down the homestretch.
- if you see safe play from starters who are juniors or seniors, I think that's an indicator of checking out to not get hurt
- I'd play any player who in practice is demonstrating smart hard nose football regardless of class; give them a chance
- keep the D simple and let the players go own natural ability but stay disciplined
I have an unanswered question: When is our elite DC gonna come up with a plan to contain the QB? These long QB runs have been killing us all season!
@rip I don’t know if the DC can do any better. What you see is what you get. Everybody but Jim Knowles knew the QB was going to run.
I wonder if Knowles hasn't checked out i.e. not reading the situation and making a change, or he flat out doesn't have the players he needs to cover the basics?
How do you contain a QB?
- Disciplined Rushing (stay in lanes, DE's not taking themselves out of the play)
- A spy that has better speed than the QB. This is either a MLB or a Hybrid (safety/LB).
- Man or zone? There is the rub? To stop the run we want to be man with the extra guy(s) in the box. But that isn't how you stop a QB? And I don't like our soft zone when we have no pressure. So man.
Grave Digger 🙂 and I had this discussion on the chat after you guys went to bed. We think 2 guys on D are liabilities. MLB and DDS. MLB may be at his ceiling, DDS needs developed.
I'm not sure about the D-line but I think the defensive backfield is OK. OSU will not need to test our backfield as they will be conservative/boring.

Coordinators are both coaching their way out the door. I didn’t watch the game but from what I’ve heard it was more malpractice.

@psujoe Homer, you might just be right about Alabama winning the NC. The QB they have can play.
I remember the Toledo loss like it was yesterday and the team was down in the dumps but they fought back and won a few games. I believe this team can fight back and get some wins and fight to get a winning season. I don’t believe we can win in Columbus but the rest of games we have a good chance. With a bowl victory that’s 5 more wins. That’s the new goal. You always gotta try and find something to build on.
@southern-psu-fan unfortunately we only have one player on his team that is a fighter and his name is Kaytron Allen. Almost all of the other players that we were counting on this season have quit. I wonder how long it will be till they start optingg out.

It’s going to be ugly when we play in Columbus, I’m thinking something like 52 to 3 but I still think Bama is the better team and has the better coach
Bama wont even get there...They will lose in the Semi's...I think 3 of the top 4 teams are in the B1G right now...Sadly we ain't one of em...
