Ohio State beats Indiana, Michigan beats Ohio State and Penn State wins out. Does this put Penn State in the Big10 title game?
Also, it just dawned on me. If Penn State wins out and so does Oregon and Ohio State, Penn State will remain at #4 and most likely host a playoff game. I like this scenario, I just feel bad with an 11-1 record they have to play in in cold weather and not some warm destination. But then again, win their game and then they will be playing somewhere warm! In fact, I am starting to think if Penn State does indeed win out, but doesn't make the Big10 title game, this may not be a bad thing. One less game for injuries, one less loss ( if they would lose ) to bring them down mentally, and a few weeks to rest and prepare.
Is it possible, just asking, that Oregon and Ohio State could forgo the Big10 title game to prepare for the National Championship opportunity? Or better yet, sit their main stars out and let the the backups have at it? I understand the seating thing if you win your conference, but you have to win every game in the playoffs to be Nation Champions. Does it really matter who you play first? Other than the fact you may draw a lesser team in the second round?
I realize I am probably a little off here with this, but I think Penn State may be better off vs the loser of the Big10 title game in the long run. This is going to be interesting. Which would you rather be. Penn State not making the Big10 title game and being rested or Ohio State making the title game and losing to Oregon for the second time and then making the playoffs which they will?
GO STATE! Win out and hope for a few weeks to heal and prepare I say!
That would mean we are tied with Indiana, and it would go to tiebreakers. Probably the strength of record of opponents for both teams.
@roaminglion can the big 10 get 4 teams in because our schedule didn’t turn out as strong as we expected and we could lose on that if Indiana and Penn St finish 11-1? Go 11-1 and miss the playoffs might make me go over the edge 😂 I know we ain’t getting in with 2 losses to many hurdle for that to happen. They’d take all 2 loss SEC teams over us.
The way I understand it is 1 thru 4 are conference winners, you cannot have 2 teams from the same conference in the top 4.
Yeah, the Big Ten could absolutely get 4 teams in the playoff. However, Cohappy is right that only one team from the Big Ten can get a bye as a 1-4 seed. After that, it would be at-large bids.@roaminglion can the big 10 get 4 teams in because our schedule didn’t turn out as strong as we expected and we could lose on that if Indiana and Penn St finish 11-1? Let's say Oregon goes undefeated and wins the Big Ten, Ohio State has only two loses both to Oregon, while we and Indiana have 1 loss. The rankings could very well look like:
- Oregon
- Texas
- Ohio State
- Penn State
- Tennessee
- BYU
- Notre Dame
- Alabama
- Ole Miss
- Indiana
- Georgia
- Miami
- Boise State
- SMU
In this case, the seeding would go:
- Oregon
- Texas
- BYU
- Miami
- Ohio State
- Penn State
- Tennessee
- Notre Dame
- Alabama
- Ole Miss
- Indiana
- Boise State
Of course there's a of of football to play so much can happen.
@roaminglion I just want to make it in the playoffs I don’t care who we play. Trust me there’s nobody that wants DA to step up and win a huge game more than me and I hope it happens in the playoffs. He needs a big win bad.
Fan mindset gone wrong. We need a win, not just him. This shit has been happening since 2016 yet somehow people have convinced themselves it's Allar's fault.@roaminglion I just want to make it in the playoffs I don’t care who we play. Trust me there’s nobody that wants DA to step up and win a huge game more than me and I hope it happens in the playoffs. He needs a big win bad.
@roaminglion Collins, McQuerry, Mills, Robinson, D-Clark, Richardson, Thompson, McGloin, Hack, McSorely and Clifford all beat Michigan or Ohio St and got big wins….DA hasn’t and that’s the facts and our QB should get at least 1 freaking big win…period
LOL - Clifford had 2 losing seasons and lost 2 games every other year year.@roaminglion Collins, McQuerry, Mills, Robinson, D-Clark, Richardson, Thompson, McGloin, Hack, McSorely and Clifford all beat Michigan or Ohio St and got big wins….DA hasn’t and that’s the facts and our QB should get at least 1 freaking big win…period
But now, in your opinion, Allar possibly going 11-1 and doing better than Clifford ever did doesn't mean anything because he needs "A big win".
You keep saying he didn't beat Michigan. FFS we dont even play them this year, and last year they won the national title. Kind of a stupid metric when they arent even on our schedule.
Clifford never beat Ohio State, and lost to every top 10 team he played. Beating Michigan in down years arent "Big wins". If Allar had played Michigan this year, you'd be saying they suck so it doesn't count.
@roaminglion Clifford won a Rose Bowl and Cotton Bowl and had two 11 win seasons. We had one losing season during Covid. Michigan was also ranked when we beat ‘em
Yes, he won a Rose Bowl that no one but you cares about, because half of Utah had opted out of the game. Also, a Utah team that you've stated multiple time "stinks". Yet now it's a big win? Convenient.@roaminglion Clifford won a Rose Bowl and Cotton Bowl and had two 11 win seasons. We had one losing season during Covid. Michigan was also ranked when we beat ‘em
Also, now beating Memphis is a big win? A team you also said stinks. Wow.
"Michigan was also ranked when we beat em" - Oh wow... you think Georgia Tech had a "big win" against Florida State this year, because they were ranked when they beat them? Even though FSU stinks and is 1-8? LOL, but I guess they can say the beat a "ranked" team. LOL
Based on "ranked when we beat em" - funny that the 3 ranked teams Allar has beaten when we played them don't seem to count as big wins. Interesting, you give credit to all the other guys for beating teams when they are ranked, but then say Allar hasn't beaten anyone. Huh.
@roaminglion Michigan does suck. Too bad we didn't play them this year. It would have been a big game, that wasn't.
@been-there-ii My son said, who won the USC game for us and I said the kicker 😂
