Putting this out there for those who might be interested. I have read that OSU Athletic dept has a $38+ Million dollar deficit for the latest fiscal year. I believe 'Bama and Texas are running at a large deficit as well. How sustainable is this? I do believe PSU by-laws does not allow for tax dollar revenue towards athletics. I think at the going rate college football will destroy itself.

I believe the ncaa wants it to crash so they can get back total control. Some of this stuff is way above my head that’s just my guessing opinion 😂

NIL doesn't come from the University, or hasn't so far. It's not part of OSU's budget.

That's where it's heading, Southern - crash & burn!  NIL set the stage & revenue sharing (direct pay for play) will finish it off.

Crash and burn, it's come back from the ashes like a Phoenix. Hopefully for the better.

I hope you're right BT.  The heavier it gets I'm liking NFL lite less & less.

@roaminglion

Interesting.  We've gone from football supporting many of these programs to football killing them off!  So sad, IMO.

@roaminglion  are you saying women sports in the Olympics will be cut? It seems to me that the money that’s being pulled in to pay players and coaches all this money has to be coming from somewhere where it’s being spent already and wherever it is being spent will suffer the consequences. But this stuff is WAY over my head I’m just guessing.

The other sports in college outside basketball and football are called "Olympic sports". They very rarely make money, and usually lose a lot of money. Not just the women, but men also. Maryland left the ACC a while back because they were having to cut sports due to budget shortfalls, and the Big Ten saved them. However, if paying the players leads to bigger budget hits then sports that lose money will suffer greatly.

@roaminglion  I’ve heard on sports shows before that women sports lose money that’s why I was asking. Thanks for that information Roam

So OSU is -$38M and PSU is -$12 to $20M?

That makes us 2-3x better....

Are colleges like the Federal Gov't now?

And why is that? Penn state continues to follow the models of many other college institutions across the country.  Don’t expect this to improve anytime soon. Budget allocations have already been released for 2026-27 and it isn't pretty. Mass layoffs and severance  packages continue to be the norm for college employees.

Decline in student enrollment has been rampant since 2010 for every college. Most high school graduates are running for the hills to avoid the atrocoius college loan rates of 9%.

4 years gets you 159,000 in debt for in state students. With the current administration in place expect to see more empty lockers as they continue to gut everything they can.

A 700M stadium renovation and a few more 3.1M hires should solve all the problems. Continue to polish Jimmy's knob.

@dalepsu2007  most of the money and college stuff is WAY above my pay grade but I can still see this has a bad ending because there’s no cap on anything, it’s spend, spend, spend baby. Just look around brother and see when you do take action and cut off the money spigot how folk start acting. When that money spigot gets turned off it turns folks into bigger nuts. Didn’t the government cause this mess? 😂 This is Roams and a few others thing here Dale if you need to know how to grade a QB or fix an offense you come talk to ole southern baby 😂 I’m gettin my pushups, dumbbells and stretching done this morning and fixing to hit the Bowflex for 30 minutes I just turn 57 but I’m feeling good this morning and got some Bud Light waiting for me this Saturday 😁🇺🇸🍺 Let’s go Eagles

I need to know something because I’ll admit I don’t catch on sometimes. When I say big game James I’m talking about beating Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee winning Rose, Cotton, fiesta bowls but I got a feeling some folks are taking a shot a James Franklin and why call him jimmy when his name is James? My name is Jimmy and I get asked all the time is it Jimmy or James. If my name was James I’d spell James not Jimmy! Just asking baby lol

@southern-psu-fan My ex wanted to name our 1st son Jamie, which I thought was a bit feminine, since I had a crush on a Jamie in my grade school days. We compromised on James. Of course he's now known as Jamie or Grunt, which was a holdover form my Corps days. My navy friends called me Grunt, my son was "Little Grunt", which got shortened to Grunt later in life.

I think there's more than a few folks that have a problem w/ Franklin's race.

@dalepsu2007 College isn't for everyone and shouldn't be touted as the best thing to do w/ your life. We need good tradesmen more than we need Liberal arts grads. Having a degree doesn't automatically get you out of your parents basement apartment.

You might want to go back and check to see who actually pays for the coaching salaries.

I'll keep calling him Jimmy until he brings home the Natty.  After he does that, he'll be Big Game James!

@rip  I feel both you and BT. I love James Franklin and I believe he’s a great coach. I can watch a game and see who has the better players and in all honesty James Franklin has won 97% of the games he should win and lost the games he probably should’ve lost. I didn’t get pissed after the Ohio St game because Ohio St looked like the better team and the Oregon game I thought the refs were horrible not calling holding 15 times when they should’ve but the loss to ND pisses me the fudge off because we had the better team and lost. The ND game is the worst loss as a Penn St fan since 1975 and I don’t give a rats butt if we did make the top 4 that loss sucks and James Franklin won’t get off my shit list until he get me a dam win that makes up for it. Unfortunately it will be 2026 because I ain’t seen any moves to fix the problem that caused the loss unless we plan on shutting teams out.
