This is an interesting video on YouTube, the link is below. Trent Dilfer talked about this after his first season coaching UAB. It's been a while, but I think Dilfer said it was being discussed, the main hurdle was figuring out how to make it profitable for the Private Equity Firms, and that it would cause a significant stratification within the FBS.
BOMBSHELL OPINION: Big Ten Would EVICT Unsuccessful Teams Under $2 Billion Private Capital Venture!
Is not surprising at all!
This keeps getting sleazier & sleazier. As some of us predicted, this ain't gonna end well!
As a 63 year old professional businessman I have learned one thing in my lifetime and this is my golden rule...Rule numero uno...ANYTIME big money gets injected into anything you can expect chicanery, thievery & the worst traits of mankind to be immediately infused into the equation...I am sad to see gambling and all of this big money being injected into amature sports because everytime big money and gambling is associated with anything you can bet your sweet ass corruption is going to follow...Look at everything that used to be good about sports...It's almost universally been ruined...Major college sports & it's trickling into high school sports now and of course look at what the little league world series has become...Eventually this is all going to collapse because none of this sustainable...
I agree, but I do think it’s sustainable, just in another light.
The system has been eroding and the cat is now out of the bag. I just read the other day that NIL is now available for high school athletes in some places, the door is open at multiple levels whether we like it or not, good or bad, right or wrong.
@the-funeral-director You make make so much sense FD so I’m going to let the bringing in Gruden thing slide 😂
Homer this has already bled into High School sports...I am waiting for it to hit pee wee baseball and the traveling sports scene like AAU Soccer, Baseball, Basketball etc...They have bastardized sports to the point it's actually becoming nauseating to watch these prima donna's anymore even at the lowest levels...As far as it being sustainable I have serious doubts...Anytime you inject unfathomable amounts of money into anything it turns to shit and collapses under it's own corruption just as the pre NIL did with all of the under the table nonsense that went on...Sports in general is in a very bad place right now in my opinion...
@the-funeral-director I believe the ncaa wants everything to collapse and go under that way they can swoop back in and take control again and get back to only scholarships. When the bubble bust that’s what will happen. It’s the NFL with no salary cap.
The toothpaste is already out of the tube Southern...No way they can go back to not paying the players...The problem with the salary cap or a NIL cap is that nobody is going to abide by it...You will have the Dodge Chargers for everybody except on a grander scale...The sacred cow programs like the Ohio State's, Michigan's and Alabama's will run roughshod with nothing but a light slap on the wrist if they violate the cap...The SMU's and Boise States of the world will get the book thrown at them but the sacred cows will get away with it...That is what we have seen in the past and only a fool would believe this won't go on with a NIL cap...
@the-funeral-director i agree but what if the bubble bust then what happens? We know it will bust one day I’ve heard to many smart people say it is not sustainable? Its above my head so I’m just trusting some people I listen to including some of our own here?
There really isn't a bubble to burst. This is just getting started. At best football will become a tiered sport as is but at a different level.
Imo, edu standards kept it somewhat nonbusiness-like, but that's out the door now. And the only thing that the admins will be concerned about is getting their share, and it is not going to be equal shares.
You just saw today what happens when you have big money in a sport and then inject gambling into it...You have and NBA head coach, an NBA player and other sports figures involved in a multimillion dollar gambling scandal...You also have people leaking injury information on players on top of it...What is amazing to me is that anybody would be shocked...Frankly the only shock I have is that it took this long to come out...
More proof that human nature cannot be denied. People will do things that they believe are personally advantageous. And since there is so much corruption and selfishness within our society, it is the rare individual who will deny themself. The result is societal rot and decay.
Well said Tae...The sad part of it all is there is no leadership and the rot starts from the very top...Where are the leaders that set the proper example? We sure are in need of one at this point in time...
