Joey Porter Jr was named the Bednarik National Defensive Player of the Week for his integral part in Penn State’s win over Purdue last Thursday night.  And some of us have a problem with him.... go figure.

Kinda like Clifford being B1G Co-Offensive player of the week.

If he is so good why did Purdue target him so much?  The announcer thought they did.  He plays tight and agressive and if the refs let them play he is OK.  But on Purdues last offensive play I'm thinking P should throw the ball at Porter and hope for an interference.  Statistically it seemed like their best option.  Yards plus another play.

They didn't target him, the targeted their best receiver who Porter lined up against for a majority of the night. Over half of the kids yardage came when Porter wasn't covering him.

That and he was in a lot of press coverage for a good amount of the game. That's essentially putting your guy out on an island. Add that to the fact we didn't generate a pass rush, it's a lot to ask of any corner. I'd say holding O'Connell (a 75% passer) to 51% passing shows our secondary made it very difficult for Purdue.

I thought porter played a good game the Purdue QB was throwing his way all night and Porter held his own. You keep the Purdue QB at 52% you did a pretty good job. Imo it was the DE’s and LB’s that struggled but I believe they’ll get better that was a tricky game to break in new players.

Most people that have a problem with Porter Jr really only have a problem with the name “Porter”. Jealous filthadelphia eagle fans and little brother syndrome rearing its ugly head again.

IMO Porter is a decent DB, good athlete, has the tangibles etc.. but if I remember correctly he has a bad habit of getting called for interference in clutch moments or getting beat... One thing to be called for interference for smart aggressive play vs getting beat and grabbing on for dear life.
