He was interviewing with the NY Football Giants and the Caroline Panthers this week but it seems the Panthers may be looking to make him their guy.

Born January 31, 1975, he spent his childhood in New York City before moving to State College, PA, as a teenager.

Rhule played four seasons at linebacker with the Nittany Lions under Joe Paterno. A three-time Penn State Scholar-Athlete, he earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 1997. He received his undergraduate degree in political science before earning his master’s degree in educational psychology from Buffalo in 2003.

Rhule began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant at Penn State in the spring of 1998 before working at Albright College in Reading, Pa., for the 1998 season. At Albright, he coached the linebackers in a 4-3 scheme and recruited western and central Pennsylvania.

And it is now official.

The Carolina Panthers have reached agreement to make Baylor's Matt Rhule their new coach, a source confirmed to ESPN.

Rhule had been rumored to be in the mix for Carolina and the New York Giants, but the 44-year-old had said in December that he planned on returning to Baylor.

The Panthers are hoping that Rhule can do for them what he did for Baylor, taking a struggling program and turning it into a national power. The Bears were 1-11 in Rhule's first season in 2017 but went 11-3 this past season.

Rhule, who coached the Giants' offensive line in 2012, replaces Ron Rivera, who was fired this past season after a nine-year run.

The Panthers finished 5-11 last season and haven't made the playoffs since 2017.

The NFL is one fickle league, isn't it? "The Panthers have not made the playoffs since 2017"

Two whole years!!! FIRE THE COACH!

Wish him well.  Yep, as Roam said, the NFL is tough on coaches, but in this day & age, so is the college game, LOL

How would you like to be Browns fan? They were woo'ing Mike McCarthy hard after firing Kitchens but the Cowboys showed up instead. Nobody wants to coach there, not even Urban Myer.
