If we play well tonight, we will jump Oregon, Miami, and Ole Miss to be #6. I do not think we'd jump the loser of UGA vs Alabama unless one of them gets hammered.
Another loss which is inevitable for them and their playoff chances are gone
And this is why these polls are trash and how the system gets manipulated...When you have undefeated teams in a power 4 conference they should be ranked ahead of 1 loss teams...I don't wanna hear any of the malarkey about strength of schedule and all of that nonsense...When you lose you go to the back of the line...I know it's all temporary but that is how it should work until a team gets a loss...As far as the style point stuff in my book a win is a win...Close only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades and dancing...You win and move on you lose and back you go...That's how you get this stacking of a particular conference up in the polls even when they lose...This is exactly how the finessed the playoffs in years past...You manipulate the rankings...They pick and choose who gets penalized after a loss and that is total bullshit...
@psujoe we lost the Ole Miss game but we also had half the starters out. If we had good QB play I still believe we win that game. I believe this shows how much depth we have we just gotta find a way to beat Ohio St. Michigan got a break from playing us this year but that’s the way it goes smh lol….beat the shit out of Illinois tonight and make a statement baby! Let’s go Penn St
@the-funeral-director some teams get a pass for losing and some don’t!
The bottom line is this...Those bowl games are meaningless and are no indication of who was the better team during the regular season...These games now are meaningful and determine who moves on and who stays home...The rankings stack has already begun to manipulate this thing with one conference who ESPN is business partners with stacked at the top...The hypocrisy comes when they lose a ballgame and don't get dropped back 10 slots like everybody else...The excuse they use is one that they create for these situations...Oh but they lost to a top 10 team...My question is why are all these teams in the top 10? As far as Penn State is concerned they really have no excuses this year...They have a schedule where if they are for real they should run the table...They have USC and Wisky on the road which if they are a great team they will win those ballgames...OSU is at home and they should win that ballgame too...Penn State is in a position where they control their destiny...Win your games and you move on...You mark my words one of these sacred cows is gonna lose 2 or 3 games and they will put them in...It's a little bit better now that they have gone to 12 teams but they are still gonna manipulate the thing...The manipulation has already begun with the rankings this week...Rank em all high and let them play with themselves...
Nah... I don't think Indiana or Pittsburgh is better than Georgia or Alabama, and certainly don't believe either should be ranked ahead of the loser.
The opponets you play matter IMO. If they didn’t, why are you only saying "Power 4"? You obviously discount those teams based on their schedules so what's the difference?
I disagree...Til they lose they should be ranked higher...If they are pretenders they will lose soon enough and then get bumped behind the other 1 loss teams accordingly...Until somebody beats ya you belong at the front of the bus as far as I am concerned...Enough of this beauty pageant baloney...
I will give you an example...USC beat LSU head to head both teams at the moment have a loss...and in one poll LSU is ranked 3 spots above USC...Explain that to me? In the other poll USC is ranked higher by 1 slot...That is an example of the B.S. that goes on with glazing a particular conference to ensure they play ranked teams each week...It's all done to perpetuate the con...
I call that "why nobody cares about the coaches poll". That poll means zilch, not sure why anyone even looks at it anymore.I will give you an example...USC beat LSU head to head both teams at the moment have a loss...and in one poll LSU is ranked 3 spots above USC...Explain that to me? Only poll that means anything during the season is the AP Poll, and that's stretching it. It doesn't mean much at all.
The CFP Comittee is all that really matters now.
The whole "committee" thing is a farce...Look at what they did last season...They do what they are told to do by their bosses ESPN...ESPN runs this show and mark my words...A minimum of 5 teams from their conference will be in and it could be as many as 7...I also am predicting that 80% of the teams from their conference will get very friendly seeding based on these polls...I anticipate that MAYBE 1 of the 5 to 7 teams travels in the first round and the rest have home games...Lets see how wrong I am and how they twist themselves into pretzels to make all of this happen...
The funny thing is the 2 teams they twisted themselves into pretzels to put in last season and exposed how they have bastardized this thing to satisfy ESPN got beat in the first round after they were BOTH hyped and were favorites to win their respective games...You would have thought they would have learned their lesson after the UCF debacle...But the power of the almighty dollar clouds their judgement...
Why exactly was Texas not worthy of getting in? They had one loss and beat the SEC Champion.
Not sure I get your reasoning as to why they didn't deserve to be in. Your logic would mean FSU went in place of Alabama. So again, how is putting Texas in "twisting themselves into pretzels"?
Also, I just checked.
Michigan was favored by 2 in the game, Alabama was the underdog.
All the ESPN talking heads were yodeling about how it was going to be an Alabama vs. Texas final...All the ESPN hype was on Bama and Texas...Once again they got exposed...
Speaking of being exposed, that team I saw in Beaver Stadium today sure as hell is not the 7th best team in the country. Come out flat like that in L.A. and we’ll be so far behind by halftime that the deficit will be too large to overcome in the 2nd half.
@psujoe What do y’all see in USC that I don’t? Michigan threw around 4 passes and beat ‘em. This ain’t the same Michigan team as last year either. I believe we’ll run the ball down their throats next week.
what did you see in PSU today that I didn’t? I saw a team once again not ready to play at the beginning of the game. USC can put up a lot of points and they can do it in the blink of an eye.
if we come out next week and play the first half like we have all season we’ll lose by 14+
Also just checked:All the ESPN talking heads were yodeling about how it was going to be an Alabama vs. Texas final...All the ESPN hype was on Bama and Texas...Once again they got exposed...
ESPN Playoff Predictions...
Prediction: Washington 37, Texas 33
You have a selective memory. Sorry but Texas was not picked by ESPN. Maybe some of their analysts picked them, but their big playoff predictions article had Washington winning.
@psujoe I believe our defense is good enough to beat anybody. Gotta get the offense going for sure. Hopefully the OC is holding a little back it sure looks like we can score when we need to through the first 5 games anyway. DA didn’t have his best game today.
@psujoe I believe our defense is good enough to beat anybody. Gotta get the offense going for sure. Hopefully the OC is holding a little back it sure looks like we can score when we need to through the first 5 games anyway. And like I’ve said many many times Somgleton should be a feature back, Allen is good but it was proven today that he’s nowhere close to being on the same level.
Say what you want about Allar, the kid is good and he doesn’t make many mistakes but to me something is missing. He should have shredded that defense today.
@psujoe I agree about DA, He’s having a great year so far and I’ve bragged on him all year but today he was a little bit off. The offense missed Singleton today imo. Had Singleton played I believe we beat UCLA a lot worse. That dude Singleton has stepped his game up baby. I love Allen but we’re better with Singleton.
@southern-psu-fan I’ve said it over and over that Singleton should be the feature back and agree that he was definitely missed today. Allen can run people over and get those tough yards but he’s nowhere near to being the every down home run threat that Singleton is.
You hit on something homer. Something is missing in the offense. Of course Singleton is missing but something is missing when he does play. IMO what’s missing in that respect is just line up and run the freaking offense without trying to trick the defense. Line up and say my man is better that yours and we’re going to run right at your ass and we’re going to throw the ball without trying to trick you. We have the talent to kick ass so just do it there’s no reason for the trickery all the time. That trickery shit will work in the big 12 but you won’t have any consistency doing it in the big 10 or SEC. Trickery is ok 2 or 3 times a games but 6 or 7 times it’s going to cause problems. Run a good simple offense and let your talent win the games. I know a coach that won 409 games coaching that way. Joe, how did you win 409 games and beat the great Bobby Bowden 6 out of 7 times…I had the best players. It’s not complicated.
the point of all of this Roam ain't who was favored or whatever it is the fact that Bama didn't belong there and FSU did...So they went into an elaborate kabuki dance to screw over FSU an undefeated conference champ...BOTH of em got beat first round...They got exposed again...Same old wash and repeat...it's not a real playoff it's a rigged setup for ESPN to get what they want...The best way to rig something to get the outcome you want is to appoint a committee...Ask Lyndon Johnson about why he appointed the Warren Commission...
