Has anybody seen an assertion that 2 officials from the White-Out have been suspended?  The link to the story I saw is below.  I’m looking for other sources but I have not found any supporting information beyond 1 post on Fakebook.

I'm a little biased, but yeah the refs sure did seem to miss a whole lot of OBVIOUS holding calls on the Duck's O line.

Not really sure blades of grass equate to a ball carrier being down.

They held all game just like in the big 10 championship game. I guess the money is worth the crap that comes with the refs. Remember we do have replay because of the big 10 refs pretty much cheating teams playing Michigan and Ohio State.

I am certain the story is fake.  While I was waiting for the service on my vehicle to be completed, I was scrolling through websites on my phone.  And wow, it seems that there are some people who really hate Penn State.

If they aren't suspended they sure as hell should be...That was about as poorly an officiated football game as I have seen in a long time...I have NEVER seen that blade of grass call EVER...That is a new one...

Say you were playing on an old school field, maybe in say Alabama and your knee brushed a Dandelion that was 4" high?.  Does the grass need to be rooted?  What if it had been a divot of grass?  What if the knee hits a piece of paper laying on the field?  Seems like if it is obvious it hit nothing solid he was not down.  But now that we have high definition reviews we can talk about single blades of grass?  Could they tell if the single blade of grass moved?

Pretty soon someone will step on a single blade of stray white grass on the sideline and be OOB because they are to stupid to interpret intent.

If we let the grass grow high enough, we can stop even the best running game!

Taken to its illogical extreme, you can only pass for yards in a hay field and you are down as soon as the ball is caught.

Clearly we don't want holding to be reviewable 🙂  The game as we know it would end.  QB's would get hurt....

The thing that tweaks me the most about the fumble was this:

Somehow they determined there was enough evidence that his knee touched a blade of grass? To overturn the call? Overturn? Really?

Well obviously....what else does your knee have to touch? Grass is the surface.

I didn't know your knee has to penetrate the surface 8 inches deep to subgrade soil....

@roaminglion after looking at one replay I don’t believe his knee was down it was close and dang to close to overturn the call on the field.

I have to believe leadership doesn't want holding called for whatever reason and they have some policy unknown to PSU.  So now PSU needs to understand and define holding.  I see us get away with holds also.  Just not as obvious or as often.  The 'policy' really negates having good rush ends AND good offensive tackles.

What it does is:

  • protects QB's
  • Frees up running backs
  • Increases long passes (exciting)

I propose it is intentional, not incompetency.  Incompetency is not adjusting to the unwritten rules.

And since football is 1st entertainment business and 2nd a real sport I can see how it improves entertainment.  Kind of like no zone defense in Hoops, the play clock in Hoops and BBall.  The small strike zone in BBall.

The problem with holding is it has always been arbitrary and a high percentage of time it destroys drives.  We all know that.  Make it a 5 or 7 yard penalty and call it.

I see holds called on run plays that didn't even matter and then I see rush ends in the open grabbed over the shoulder pad and spun with the Ref looking at them and no call.

If our rush end is going to be held on most pass plays then he might as well not rush, tie up the tackle and play LB?  Can he occupy the tackle a bit and then cover the back while a LB blitzes.  He needs to be useful.  We have NFL Rush Ends that do not get to the QB entire games....

At the pre game meeting with the Refs James should ask if we should use a rush end.

I declare the rush end obsolete

Well Pipe I will help you out with this...In EVERY other football game I have every seen the players forearm, knee or any other body part to be called down actually has to touch the ground...A blade of grass isn't the ground...Depending on the length of the grass that could be as much as an inch or 2 above the actual ground...I have never seen that call ever made and I have been watching football for 57 years...If any of you guys have ever seen that called please let me know cause I have never seen it...

@the-funeral-director  his knee didn’t hit the ground and the call shouldn’t have been overturned. Between the 2 games we’ve played Oregon they should’ve been called for holding 10 times that didn’t get called.

Well the holding is a problem...But that singular call is something I have never saw before and I am sure will never see again...these are the things that make me question whether or not these games ain't fixed...I don't know what other explanation you can have for the same shit happening over and over again...

It's Allar. Wait no... the games are fixed. Wait... we don't give Cargers to players. Wait... A million other reasons other than we just aren't good enough.

Same results under the same coach and still wondering what the problem is.

No you're right...Allar is a star...Best pressure QB I have ever seen...Nothing is his fault...It's the O-Line, It's the WR's, It's the coaches...Best QB in college football history...Nothing could be his fault...You are absolutely right...

That sarcasm would be spot on if I hadnt already stated like 1000 effing times I dont think Allar is good and I don’t care who the effing QB is.

Not sure if you even read my posts at this point

So you don't think Allar is any good...Fantastic...He has cost them how many big games so far? Put the backup in and see what happens...I can tell you this much...If the backup succeeds then you have your answer as to what the problem is...

Yes, Allar is the answer to what has plagued the program for 9+ years, 6 years longer than Allar has played. Makes sense
