Ameteut football as we used to know it is almost dead.

These young men making a few dollars ain’t going to hurt high school or college football, it just might make them work harder knowing they’re making money on their name?
Meh. It was bound to happen sooner or later. It sure beats bussing tables for a living. I agree with Southern. Exactly how is this going to kill "ameteut" football??
I look at it like this, if the kid was a prodigy musician or engineer and wrote a musical number or invented something and made a buck off of it, we as a society would applaud him. But, we're supposed to be all up in arms because a kid that's good at football finds a way to make money off his name??
I don't care, what's the difference between some kid making millions on YouTube while he's in high school.
Lots of opinions on this issue. It remains to be seen how this works out. I see both good and bad. In a few years when things fall into place, many may no longer be interested in what college football has become.
Side note, with a growing number of Nittany Lions opting out of the Outback Bowl, I probably won’t wast my time watching the game. In essence, except for 4 teams, the 2021 season is over.
@sky Somwhat agree but would define my position as guarded. You can't stop the evolution of college sports, who is getting stronger and why. The purity of the college game is long gone and maybe it was really never there. I'm sad the military academies and Ivy leagues are no longer relevant but then again, nobody says "23 skidoo" anymore. I just hope "Dear Ole State" will be able to compete in this new era.

I'll be in Florida for the holidays and we had planned on attending the game as the stadium's only about a 25 minute drive but i may change my mind and just watch it on the big screen at Cooters. If the players can opt out so can i.

@psujoe Where would you say the best place to stay in Tampa? We were considering it, thought about the Y'Bor City but changed our holiday plans and not going to Florida.
@lakerie i love Clearwater Beach ! It's one of the highest rated beaches in the country and it's very convenient to get to the stadium. Cooters is a Steelers bar in Clearwater Beach. My only experience in Ybor was when my sister had a condo downtown and we'd get a shuttle to go there. That place will probably be crazy New years weekend.

Wait till NIL hits 8th graders. YouTube is pumping the young’ns big time, especially basketball.

It actually makes me more interested to watch, I'd rather see young guys getting a chance to play in a bowl like this rather than guys who are gone next year.
You're right Roam, we get to see a raw 2022 team in action. lol Hope we have the horsepower to win.

Right!! the only exception if it was CFP or maybe the Rose Bowl (but I think that is what you meant.)
If you think about it, it's kinda sorta like a year end Blue-White game, lol.

Are you interested in watching a high school football scrimmage before the games begin? No doubt non tournament bowl games have morphed into an opportunity for coaches to assess or develop talent. That’s not a bad thing but something I’m not interested in investing my time in. Joepa always coached to win.

If this is what bowls have become they are nothing more than a glorified and meaningless Blue - White game.

I have no issues with these kids cashing in on their talent...For too many years everybody else was cashing in but the athletes themselves...I agree with Roam that it is an opportunity to get a look at the new talent and to see what kind of team they will be fielding in 2022...It's just not a barometer of what the regular season team was...
