Said it for years, I hate the NFL's OT rules. Mahomes is the MVP (in all likelihood), equaled Brady at the end of the game leading drive after drive...
...and then never touches the ball again because of a coin flip. Dumb, I like college better.
I totally agree Roam. I’ve said the same thing for years. NFL should adopt the college OT format, just back the ball up 10 yards for the starting point. It would make things so much better. And the officiating was horrible all weekend. The NFL has a major issue with officiating.
Living up here in the northeast I'm surrounded by Patriots fans. Guess im gonna be a Rams fan for two weeks.
Didnt watch the first game but i heard the officiating was bad. In the second game, if blown calls were penises; that game would have been a porn flick.
How ya feeling T? Has the warden let you out of double secret probational scrutiny yet?
I keep waiting for them (NE) to proclaim themselves "America's Team" like Dallas did a few years back.
I guess its a matter of opinion, I absolutely loathe the college football OT rules, and would take the NFL any day of the week. The college OT is "Mickey Mouse"...ball on 25 c'mon now, that's not football...the NFL flips the coin and plays football.. If you cant stop a 75 yd drive, that's on you..
Im amazed the college rules haven't been changed If I recall correctly, whoever passed these rules, the NCAA I guess, had the rationale, of protecting the safety and health of the players, assuming games would end faster than the NFL..Hasnt happened, you have had 6 -7 OT period games which is ludicrous, and puts tired players at risk..
I think the NFL got it right, when it ruled the first team with ball couldn't win with a FG..in OT..The only thing I may change is in the playoffs ONLY, the other team gets the ball too, even if like last nite, the first team scores a TD..Other than that, its fine..
And, Im a season ticket holder of a team that lost NFC East, as it turned out to Dallas, because the Cowboys got the ball first..

The warden has about 6 guards watching me at any given moment.......but there's ways around all that. I managed to spend most of Saturday in the ice shack. The warden allowed me to push snow yesterday but the grandkids still bring woid in for me every day. I could get used to this!! I did help one of my grandkids shovel off one of my decks and probably shouldn't have. I hurt like h#ll the rest of the day.
How much snow didya get?? We got MAYBE 8". They were caliing for a lot more.

"If you cant stop a 75 yd drive, that's on you.." - So if neither team can stop the other, the game is decided by whoever wins the coin toss. I hate it. Patriots couldn't stop the Chiefs at the end either, give both a chance.
No other league anywhere in the world has such dumb rules.
Baseball: both teams get a chance.
Basketball: 5 minutes of each team having possessions
Soccer: Two 15 minute periods, both teams have equal chances
Hockey: Both teams have equal chances
Football? Nope, one team gets shafted and may never get the ball. Just find it completely stupid that a team's best player might never even see the field because of a coin toss. The league has done everything in it's power to give the advantage to the offense, and specifically the QB... then makes the OT rules so that one QB may never even see the field?
Don't like the 25? Then make it the 50. Give both teams a chance on offense AND defense, let both sides of the ball prove it. These are teams, and I'd like to see the entire team involved in OT.
Kinda tough to tell T, wind is blowing it around pretty well. I marked it down as 12 & 1/8 from "The Storm", picked up an additional 4 & 1/2 from the lake effect yesterday aft thought today. It was pretty close to knee deep as I waded out to my weather station, that's battery couldn't take the the cold anymore. Looks like it's time to get the snowshoes out.
"No other sport has such dumb rules"...True, but no other sport do they bang the cr*p out of each other for 60 minutes either..Baseball has some 5 hour extra inning games, you cant have that in football
Every rule change in football, in this day and age, whether passed by the NFL or NCAA, is in the context of what's best for player safety..I think regular season, NFL OT rules are just fine...As I said, I would be for both teams getting the ball in playoffs ONLY
As an aside, as great as Mahomes is and played in 2nd half, Id have bet on Tom Brady in OT, no matter what the rules...

If college players who are 17-21 years old can handle that type of OT, then pro athletes can handle it. I don't buy that argument at all, never even seen a college kid injured in OT.
Plus, many times it would result in less time spent for one side of the ball. Instead of the Patriots offense driving the entire field, they would have had less time and plays before their defense took the field.

Be careful with the snowshoes BT. Thats what got me in this tin tit wringer.
Will bear that in mind T. Not sure how you got Madonna's wringer though.
Hey, I saw a couple of big black birds this morning, looked like they were frozen together. Couldn't for the life of me figure out what was going on.....apparently they were a pair of Vel-crows.
WOW If you didnt find Sunday's 7 hours of NFL football, to be the most riveting football entertainment of the '18-19 season, college or pro, there's nothing I CAN ADD

It's possible to enjoy the game and still feel that the ending sucked. After all of those exciting hours, we watched one of the best players in the NFL sit on the bench as his team lost... because of a coin flip.
You forgot to add Roam,, and because the KC Chiefs defense su*ks and couldn't stop a 75 yd drive, (not 25), and if they knew how to line up onsides, would have won in regulation, and all this talk be moot..
Im a big Andy Reid fan, so was rooting hard for KC all the way..They have no one to blame except themselves..
The game credited with putting the NFL atop the sports world, the '58 Giants-Colts NFL title game ended with sudden death OT...Guess what the NY Giants got the ball first, were stopped cold by the Colts d, and then Johnny U and co took over...
NFL OT rules are just fine,as I heard a talk show host say today..They sure beat that Mickey Mouse nonsense..Its pure football, plain and simple..
Will bear that in mind T. Not sure how you got Madonna's wringer though.

LOL....ok....that one made my side hurt from laughing. I gotta remember that one for the grandkids!!!

I get what you're saying Roam, I felt kind of empty after the Splats won......but that's what happens when you're the only one in New England that isnt a Patriots fan. I also agree with what CC is saying too. Its not like this was a new rule sprung on the the Chiefs before kickoff, everyone knew what the rules were going into the game. Besides, Patrick "the second coming" Mahomes sucked for two quarters and that had more to do with them losing than the coin toss.

Absolutely, I only speak for myself when I say I think the rules are ridiculous. I have felt that way for years, and it's just my opinion but I wish the NFL would go to the college rules or at least something that looks like the college rules.
At the end of the day, it's more of a pet peeve than a real gripe. I mean, this rule isn't keeping me from watching and enjoying the football game. 😂 Just something I wish they would change
