These dudes have Cincinnati and Louisiana ranked ahead of Penn State and they also have Libery and coastal Carolina ranked in the top 25. I believe we are 23rd. The article says we’ll be as good as Clifford is which is probably right unless we can get another QB from the transfer portal. I looked and I didn’t see any news on the Oregon QB

@navylion. I was more interested in their opinion on our QB situation saying we’ll be as good as Clifford is plus we really don’t have a QB behind Clifford that has any experience. If we can land the Oregon QB everything IMO changes and puts Penn State in a much better situation to beat Ohio State. The guys on ESPN sees the same thing I do that’s all I was saying. You’re right rankings in February mean nothing
@southern-psu-fan Man at this point nobody knows anything. Clifford could come out on fire like he never has before or he might not even make the starting line up. Who knows maybe one of the new kids is the next heisman winner. No one knows jack including if the kid from Oregon will make a difference or not.

Clifford is not a bad QB. Kind of hard to pick any player apart when it was such a sh!t show in 2020. I still think had they had those OOC games PSU would have faired out way better than they did. They finished on a 4-0 run, I get who the competition was, but they still finished 4-0. I also don't think Tommy S was not all that bad either. They just went with him too often and really never developed the offense like they should have. The OC was stuck in a rut, calling the same plays over and over and it never allowed the offense to really find themselves. I think the new OC will have much better designed plays, he has a lot of returning GOOD young players (but who also got a lot of experience last season) so he should have a good base to start with.
Clifford needs to work on his passing, dial it in a little more and he will be fine. He can scramble, he has the right feel during the game but he rushes his passes and second guesses himself a little too much....and he was too predictable last season. I am sure they are watching a lot of film off season, so hopefully they can point some of this out and work on him.
I think we all just might be pleasantly surprised when the Fall rolls around. Ain't saying they will make the playoffs, but you won't see an 0-5 start this time around!

Its funny, we Nits don't value Cliff much and yet the media talking heads think his return is great for us. I suspect they have not done their homework. But i guess he could have a breakout year or be no worse than last year. In the Paterno era he would have been a pretty typical 'serviceable' QB. An lets face it 2020 was not a fair evaluation year with a new OC and limited preparation?
If I were a transfer portal QB would I consider Clifford easy to beat out, no.

He could be great or maybe one of the new kids smokes him right out of the box I also believe the new OC is going to have a large positive impact. Teams aren’t going to be able to plan for the predictable same old offense.

Since the Oregon QB played for Moorhead there’s a good chance Moorhead has talked to James Franklin about him. I believe we’re a top 10 team with Clifford with Lee coming on like he did but to be top 5 we need to be better at QB. We can win 11 games with Clifford I just don’t think we can get in the playoffs with him. Just my opinion and it’s all just for fun I have no insight I just go on what I see on the field.

Southern, Having any worries about beating Ohio state at this time is useless and wasted energy. Before even considering OSU, getting through Week #1 is more of a concern. JMO, and the rest can call me a troll if that's what they want to do.
