CFP executives unanimously approved a change to how teams are seeded in the 12-team field and how first-round byes are doled out. The CFP will seed teams Nos. 1-12 based on the selection committee’s rankings without the influence of conference championships.

I hope you mean no automatic byes for conference champs because if those games have no influence there’s no sense in playing them.

@psujoe

Yep, the stinkin' Golden Domers get what they want again.  Now they can qualify for a bye where under the old format they couldn't!  Saw several articles opining that now there is no reason at all for ND to join a conference.

@rip  ND can justify it because we choke and stink up the field on offense in the playoffs. I need a big win BK I’m gettin tired of losing these games 😂

James Franklin's record vs. Top 10 teams

James Franklin is 3-17 against top-10 teams in his career. The most recent win the Penn State Nittany Lions had against a top-10 opponent was during the 2022 against Utah in the Rose Bowl.

This has to get better

@southern-psu-fan You're right, Southern.  Enough of this crapping when the lights are brightest is enough!  He needs to come through this year or I don't see him ever doing it!

@southern-psu-fan Come on Brother, what does ND's ability to get whatever they want, have anything to do w/ PSU and Franklin's performance? None, two different animals.

@been-there-ii  they have played in 3 NC games in the last 15 years so they can justify them being there without playing in a conference championship game so if teams don’t like it then beat ‘em and not make them relevant and they’ll stop getting their way. If ND keeps beating teams like Penn St making it to the NC game they can give all the other teams the finger just like they’ve been doing. I’m just frustrated with the big game losses BT 😂

Just going to add this... when facing top 10 teams, when has Franklin had equal or better talent than the other team? I believe I saw the recruiting rankings brought up once or twice in the past, and going by those numbers his team was only the more talented team 3 times. He's 2-1 in those games.

Every other matchup the other team had better recruiting. Not saying anything other than the statistic, make of it as you wish. I know Dabo and Saban usually had the talent edge. Franklin almost never does, although this upcoming year I believe we're equal or more talented that anyone on our schedule. Even OSU.

This new CFP setup is purely because the SEC bitch, pissed, whined and moaned because their teams had to travel north to play their playoff games and got dusted...Now they are able to do the same ole shit they have done in the past...Overrate their teams by putting 10 of em in the top 15 so they guarantee the SOS to justify giving them home games and byes...Only difference is there are more teams than the 4 team nonsense of the past...Why play in a conference championship game and risk injuries? They had it right last year and the only reason to change was because the SEC cried and whined as they got exposed for the frauds they are...

Doubtful considering all the other conferences had to agree with it. If it was just the SEC, the Big Ten would have nixed the idea outright. The Big Ten wouldn't have caved to the SEC, considering they've won 2 in a row and couldn't care less about playing north.

Not sure why you think Fox and the Big Ten would give a rats a$$ about the SEC and ESPN whining.

ESPN also has OSU as the most talented team in the country with us at #3 and I think it was Texas at #2.

I thought I read where the SEC and the big 10 are rigging the system where both conferences have a certain amount of teams in the playoffs. IMO just take 12 or 16 teams and play the games where you are ranked is what it is.

My problem with James Franklin is losing all the big games we play. Losing that dam Michigan game in 2021 when we took the lead very late in the game and the defense couldn’t get it done. Losing the USC game late when we had the lead, losing to Ohio State up 21-0, losing to ole Miss and losing that fudging game to ND just flat sucks ain’t no way to sugar coat anything. To much talent at Penn St to get our ass handed to us every time we play a team with equal talent and it’s unacceptable. I like the dude but he’s another Mark Richt and I also like Mark Richt and imo Richt deserved to be fired and we’ve seen what happened when Georgia when they got a coach that goes for the throat to win…National championships…fudge Georgia and ND! We also run all over Oregon and still found a way to lose. I’m sick of losing these games especially when we have the better team.

For this season every conference needed to agree, so the SEC could have whined all they wanted an no one would have cared. They need all 10 conferences to agree for a rule change

Now today is Sunday and ole southern is very forgiving….just beat Oregon or Ohio St and show we can play with the big dawgs. Winning solves 99.9% of all your problems in sports just ask Ohio St and Georgia it’s not complicated…just win baby. James Franklin will tell you the same thing I’m saying.
