Somebody said something about Fenentz's son during the chat and I reminded them we had a similar situation. I came across this today:
In fairness to Iowa, they are not a recruiting hotbed and the coaching staff seems to have done well relative to recruiting. They are kind of a wrestling school ????

With Jay, the offense wasn't terrible. In some respects, it got pretty good. So Paterno could at least justify his son remaining "co-coordinator"
With Ferentz though... the Iowa offense has been historically bad. It's freaking terrible, and it's just pathetic that he's still on the staff.
Jay was abysmal as a recruiting coordinator and was relieved of those duties pretty quickly. His recruiting is what lead to the down years of 2000-2004. Roam is right, his offense wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great either and it certainly was consistent. IMO, the only thing that kept it respectable was Galen Hall being hired to babysit Jay. Galen should have been given full reign over the offense though. His resume was fantastic and he was successful at several stops over the years. There’s a reason why Jay never got another coaching job after PSU. All the other coaches on the staff got jobs elsewhere after PSU, except Jay.
@lionbacker99 I believe him being Joes son is keeping him from getting a job. Maybe Galen does deserve some credit but so does Jay Paterno on having 3 of the best offenses we’ve ever had at Penn State. We would’ve never got D-Clark if it wasn’t for Jay Paterno. I believe he was going to be an excellent coach had he been given a chance but his last name doomed him unfortunately. Just my opinion though but from 2005-2012 we had some bad ass QB’s and we won a bunch of football games and 2 big 10 championships and 4 or 5 bowl wins. Y’all remember, it was Jay Telling Joe that D-Clark was better than moreli and he should be the starter and D-Clark proved to be right judging on how he did when he took over in the bowl game against Texas A&M and the next 2 years
@southern-psu-fan BS on him not getting a job because his name was Paterno. College football is a shallow, short memory industry. If guys like Petrino, Freeze, Kiffin, and other non Sunday school characters can get jobs over and over again, then so could Jay…if he was a reputable coach. He isn’t/wasn’t. The only job he had was for his father and a few GA jobs he only got because his dad was friends with the HC (Welch at UVa). Also, there’s a reason why PSU had less than top notch QBs during that time frame…Jay. Guys like Chris Simms, Chad Henne, etc avoided PSU because of Jay. Henne’s HS coach in PA advised him to avoid PSU. And this is coming from a guy who sent several players to PSU from his program, but he knew PSU was not the best option for Henne.
“That dude was everything a coach shouldn’t be” Mike Mauti referring to Jay.
And let’s not forget that Jay sued Penn State and now sits on the board. What a joke.
@lionbacker99 I'd disagree with you, I do believe no one was going to hire Jay after 2011. No way, too much heat and baggage attached to the name (even if it was unjustified)
It's one thin to hire a DL coach or DC that has a different name... but at the time Paterno and his name were a nuclear bomb. There was zero chance any school was going to touch Jay, no way.
Not saying I'd hire him, but just that considering what went down and the vitriol his name conjured up at the time... he wasnt getting a job even if they thought he was a good OC
But hey, what is Bradley doing?
He kind of got the short straw?
I don't think he's doing anything involved with coaching. You're right about him getting the poopy end of the stick. I always likes him personally and thought he was a very good D coach.
@underlion He’s retired. He’s 67 yrs old. After PSU he was associate HC and DL coach at WVU, DC at UCLA, and secondary coach for the Steelers until 2020. How did he get the short end of the stick?
@roaminglion Agree to disagree. I think college football is too shallow and has too short of memories to care about any of that. If he was a top notch OC he would have gotten hired somewhere,if even in the MAC. Facts are, it’s 12 yrs later and he never got another job.
PSU didn't give him a shot at the HC position and after Joyner brought in BOB, Scrap was shown the door.

Tell that to Art Briles
