Cignetti, Stein, Fran Brown are my top3 with dDrinkwitz, Campbelll and Dillingham not far behind

I’m hearing it’s probably going to be Rhule. So get ready for more of the same.

Completely unrealistic but here goes:

1. Jon Gruden

2. Nick Saben

3. Lane Kiffin

4. Urban Meyer

5. Will Stein

Cignetti would be a transition coach; proven at every stop, probably has another good 4 years as a HC, and he is a mover meaning that once he achieves his goal he looks at the landscape and moves on. If Indiana pulls off a Natty or runs deep into the playoffs it would not be surprising if he leaves for another solid quick turn program and calls it a day. Cool thing about Cignetti is that he potentially gives you a solid 3-4 years whilst giving some of the younger coaches time to put their resume together elsewhere or under Cignetti, and be a potential replacement.

Interesting all the sports outlets have top PSU coaching contenders, most contradicting each other. So who the hell knows?

the name I keep hearing is Curt Cignetti...I am in the NYC metro area so I am not getting the caliber of intel that a guy like Homer and you local guys do...One thing I am sure of is this...I believe they were going to fire him after the Oregon loss unless he ran the table and when he lost to UCLA that was the end...Then the NW debacle happened and he started in with the players are distracted with the talk of his firing...That was the drama they needed to pull the plug right away...I am sure the money people and the powers at be were talking about his replacement after the Oregon loss already...I also believe they have a short list of 3 coaches right now who they are considering...The only coach I am certain that is on that list is Cignetti...We could all speculate who the other guys are but that is a fools errand...I know Matt Ruhle is signed through 2030 and has a 50 million buyout...I don't think he is on the list...My personal gut feeling is telling me they are going to pull out all the stops to get Cignetti and if that plan falls through they will move on to whoever is #2 on the list...This is going to be fun and interesting until we all find out who the next head coach is going to be...

Ironically Pat Kraft is an Indiana Alum

Rhule's buyout is 50 million to him if he is fired. All he has to pay is 5 million to get out of his contract.

@the-funeral-director The thing about Cignetti is we arent going to wait till January to hire our next coach and even if he is interested I’m sure he’s not going to commit during a playoff run. Another thing I’m sure of is that Ruhle is definitely on the short list and probably the #1 candidate at this point in time. I’m holding out hope that Ruhle isn’t the guy we hire but there is still a huge faction of boosters that say things have to be done ‘the Penn State way” and will demand a Penn State guy be hired. D’Anton Lynn could be the wildcard in this search.

Which modern day coach has demonstrated the most efficient and effective use of the transfer portal to build or improve his team; thats the next man up for PSU.

Ahh, Michigan demanded a Michigan man.  I'll settle for someone that wins with a PSU Philosophy.  Whatever that is in this new world order.

I am not a big fan of litmus tests for anything...I want the BEST man for the job and don't give a flying rip if he is a Penn State guy, Pitt guy, ND guy or whoever...I am hoping that they don't hire Matt Rhule as I don't think he is the best guy to bring in with the position we are in...I am not saying he isn't a good coach because he is but we need a great coach who is the best fit for the situation we have here...I am 100% certain the overture was made to Cignetti and he gave the search committee his answer to his level of interest...I have no idea what Cignetti told them and if he said "not interested" then it is time to move on from that candidate...I know Rhule and Kraft are asshole buddies from way back and with Rhule being a Penn Stater it is only logical that he is probably very high on the list...I will say this...I prefer Rhule to a guy like Lane Kiffin...

@the-funeral-director Nebraska is finally looking like a football team again so maybe Rhule can be a great coach. Penn St would be his best job if he gets it plus he’s been in the NFL and that might be some good experience with NIL and paying players. Just saying

Rhule took over 3 dumpster fires and in year year had the 1st 2 on a championship game and with Nebraska they are 5-1.

He is certainly a team builder, however he hasn't ever stayed long enough to determine whether or not he can take a team past that

Definitely a program builder but as you say he hasn’t stayed anywhere long enough to prove he can win big games and his record vs top 25 is bad but incomplete.
I’m not sold on the guy and it’s my opinion that  if this is who we had in mind when JF was fired it should have never happened.

All this crap about needing a Penn State guy or doing it the Penn State way is going to blow up in the universities face.

@roaminglion  I’d definitely get behind him and wouldn’t be disappointed if they hired the guy. I’ll get behind whoever they hire but there still might be guys I’d rather have.

And to add to what I stated above, we don’t need a program builder we need a guy who has proven he can win and also revitalize the program with energy and enthusiasm.

What we need is a guy like Kiffin or Lanning not some emotionless stiff like Ruhle.

The old traditional Penn State way is not the way to win championships today.

I have started reading that some feelers have been put out to Joe Brady, OC of the Bills and the guy 2019 LSU is credited to.

Y’all think a lot is wrong with Penn St when I don’t. Fix the QB situation and everything else will fix itself. Get a QB that can lead the team and you’ll see consistency and confidence back in the team this year. James Franklin let a shits show go on for 3 years at QB and it got 9 WR’s run off, 1 OC fired and his ass fired. Lot of shit going on right now and they should’ve fired him after the UCLA game and we’d be a week ahead right now and we could’ve beat NW. we gotta good football team just didn’t have leadership from the head coach or the QB. That changed yesterday and you could hear it in coach Terry Smith’s press conference. That’s good news 😁

I'm not sold on this being a good team or not; both lines look suspectable once big boy play started. It's one thing to hold up for a game or two, but 6-7 games is a different story. QB, well that was a known and now is an unknown.  I think that's were an exceptional coach can earn his money by exploiting weakness and strengths at least to the point of not getting cooked unless the team is flat out inferior.

@psu61 I don’t believe NW and UCLA is big boy football. The team quit on James Franklin after the Oregon loss. It’s hard for guys to get up when you keep losing the same way in all the bigs games. We’ll see a different team this Saturday night brother.
