Two key lines from this article about Michigan State, where the US Board of Education has discovered systemic violations and blatant disregard for athlete's welfare:
"...investigators found that the university had a 'lack of administrative capability,' an impairment that the report noted was 'one of the most serious findings that can result from a campus safety program review.'"
&
"the Michigan attorney general's office also has struggled to get information from the university. Michigan State continues to 'stonewall' investigators attempting to review the university's response to Nassar, "
Yet was has happened to them? Nothing. Absolutely nothing outside of a few people stepping down. No sanctions, no response about "culture", not a peep from the NCAA about how terrible this is and how they need to do something... NOTHING.
We investigated it, brought in outsiders to file a report, cooperated fully and were open about what happened and got hammered for it. Michigan State actively tries to suppress information gathering, won't release documents, and has been uncooperative from the start with investigators and they are basically getting a pass. It pisses me off so much.
It ticks me off too, Roam. I'm going to make a statement that I hope will be taken at face value and not open up a rehash of previous rehashes. In my opinion, if the coach of football at PSU was anyone other than Joseph Vincent Paterno, the media circus and resulting NCAA attention would never have happened. Too many people were laying for Joe and just loved the opportunity to "bring him down".
No doubt JP pissed a lot of people off and they were laying in wait to take him down.
MSU has the Nassar scandal
OSU had the ZS mess, the wrestling scandal that was swept away; hell even their marching band had some sort of sexual harassment issue that was pretty much ignored.
Always remember that we're the ones with the culture problem though.
I absolutely agree. Some kind of punishment or ramification must be put in place. Equal for everyone. No doubt about it.
I understand, because of what happened to PSU, this will eat you alive until someone or some other university is punished just like penn state.
No doubt JP pissed a lot of people off and they were laying in wait to take him down.

You're absolutely right Tsuga, and you know what, I'll take our cultural problem to the grave with me.

Lets hope that's 30 years down the road.

Hope so, but I'd be happy with 20! Seriously though, I'm proud of our culture, as I'm sure all of us true NITS are.
