I don't really follow recruiting too much.  Just a passing interest.  But it is impressive how these coaches find 3 star guys early, that eventually turn out to be high 4 start recruits wanted by many other schools.  I really don't know how they do that.  Must be a combination of camps and long time high school coaching contacts.

Thinking it happens quite often, at quite a few schools. Some of the Rutgers faithful seem to think everyone waits for them to find a kid and then he gets "poached" by PSU, Mich, OSU etc. I will give you, that most often the 'cruit hasn't committed to RU.

If I were a tight end, I'd wait and see how the new PSU OC uses their TE before committing.

I think its kind of foolish for a top recruit to commit a year earlier than necessary.  They should enjoy seeing different schools and learning more about different programs.  On the flip side, hearing that phone ring every night with a different coaches calling probably gets old real fast.  But then theirs the coaching changes that take place every year can really impact the choice.  Maybe just narrowing down to 3 or 4 is the way to go.

Welcome to the new times. More avenues and resources are available. Computers have changed the world.  Coaches have knowledge right at tip of their fingers.  As we know,  college football and sports have changed drastically.

Kids who get recruited are 15-16 years old yet we expect them to have the wisdom of 35 year old men.

I’m no recruiting expert either but haven’t the kid’s always been 15 or 16 years old? These kids see the ncaa not being consistent with their rules and coaches jumping ship all the time so why should they be held accountable for anything. I’m just guessing

I certainty don't have a problem with a kid changing his mind.  It's a hard choice and a lot of things change.  You prioritize offers until the best fit comes in and that might be on the last day.  What I think we as fans should accept is that is the case and not get to hyped up over a kids decision either way.  Coaches have to develop the talent they land.  We just route for our team.  Kids do what's best for themselves.  It's all good.  (Unless you sign with MSU and the next week the coach retires.  That was pretty shitty move on MSU's part.)  My initial comment was crediting the PSU coaches for the fine job they do finding talent early in the process.  Not criticizing the kid for changing his mind.

Very good points, OMPA.  That's why I don't waste my time following recruiting!  I'm not being critical of anyone who does.  It's just my personal decision not to.

World is different, kids back in the 70s - 80s were not being recruited like they are today. There wasn't a constant barrage of social media, phone calls, TV media, news journalists, etc. etc. etc

Back then many kids were just happy to get out of their small town.
