How many schools do you think should comprise the top tier Division of College Football.
So many low-life teams in major conferences should probably be bumped down a tier, and other schools that are doing really well should be bumped up. And no more independents, for a playoff system to work, all teams must be aligned to a conference.

42... it's the answer to life, the universe, and everything! 😂
BoB, I thought about the number you were talking about and how you think we should have 12 team conferences. The number sticking in my head is 96. That would give 7 major conferences, and you could either have 1 wild card selection to the playoffs or 9 for an 8 or 16 team playoff structure. I treid going to 8 conferences, but there just aren't enough good football programs to get there. Even 7 was pushing it, but I felt like too many good teams would be left out without 7 conferences.
My reasons are the following: I looked at the teams involved and tried to rationally decide which schools have the athletic programs, commitment to football, and right geography to align together. I also didn't have the heart to drop down Army, Navy, or Air Force... so they all stayed too. I made some competitive balance decisions, but ultimately tried to place all regional teams together and keep rivalries alive. In my alignment, probably the "best" school that gets screwed is USF...
Here's what I came up with:Â
I agree BOB, ND needs to s--- or get off the pot.
No they don't have to, because....because....because the're ND!
I hate ND and Iâm Irish BK
It's okay Southern, contrary to popular belief Notre Dame was founded and run by an order of French priests. LMAO
There should be a league that only includes student athletes. Some schools excluded would be:
Alabama
LSU
Missisippi State
Florida State
Boise State
Oklahoma State
Clemson
Alburn
Oregon
You forgot Ohio $t.Â
âWhy should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL....we ainât come to play SCHOOL....classes are POINTLESSâ Cardale Jones Ohio St QB.
Thatâs good ole southern accent LBâr99, Â eyes understand exactly what Cordele says baby lol

Thats the type of list I have drawn up at home too - but I was assuming some of the decent teams in the conferences you put in the left out column should be bumped up. For my system to work, all games MUST be conference games - and the playoffs should be 16 teams. All 8 conf. winners and 8 wild cards with the note that only 3 teams from a conference can make playoffs.Â
Lol thatâs funnyÂ
you're 100% percent right, BOb KOzak...ND does not need a conference, and will not be joining one ANYTIME SOON..
Latest Forbes ratings I saw, had ND second to Texas in value...They're always in top 5 or so by revenue, profits, etc..They have their national TV contract with their other network (ABC) (lol) lined up for away games...4 of 5 away games were in prime time Saturday night football...Recruiting is national...Students and alumni are steadfastly opposed. The AD was quoted in an interview BEFORE this season, as stating their stake in independence was as firm, if not moreso, than ever..
Big 10 Commish, JIm Delany tried everything he could to lure ND in late 90's, it failed..Rumor had it he would have walked to ND if he could land them..Does anyone really believe he preferred Rutgers/Maryland đ
It would be absolutely insane for ND to join a conference now..Could it eventually happen, sure...but it wont in foreseeable future.Aint happening..

No on thought otherwise, I think everyone knows ND isn't going to join a conference
It's still possible to get ND into a conference. If a list like Roams begins to happen, this newly formed entity could put enough pressure on the networks to drop their special deal in favor of this. More money in this deal then any independent deal.
I guess Im surprised posters waste their time bringing it up...as you said, AINT HAPPENING...Not now, or foreseeable future anyway..
Obviously I was just having fun with the divisions, kinda trying to answer BoB OP for what it would look like.
I really don't see it coming to fruition, but sometimes it's fun to just think about anyway
Wasn't there talk 4 or 5 yrs back, could be longer, when all the conference unrest was at its height, and schools were jumping ship like wildfire, that in the end, 4 sixteen team conferences would be the final result, when it all shook out?,,,Do you remember that..and I wonder what derailed it?
CT, I thought Texas A&M was number 1 followed by Texas?Â
I think that was a different study than the one I referenced....it listed revenues and profits for the 25 top schools...in that one, Im sure thats the one you saw, you're correct southern...Texas A&M was no. 1...that in itself surprised me, no wonder they had all that cash to pay JImboâŠ.in that one, ND was 7th, I believe..
Just checked it further, you are correct southern, that was the updated 2018 Forbes ranking, I had an old Forbes ranking..

Texas A&M was number one because of their fundraising push for the renovations to Kyle Field. What they did isn't sustainable for them and over the next few years they'll drop back down to where they were.
You see this among the certain football schools from time to time like Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, and Oregon. All were fairly high on the list at one point or another because of huge financial donations by guys like T Boone Pickens, Phil Knight, or massive fundraisers for huge stadium renovations.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if in the next couple of years you see Penn State back up there on this list, when they start pushing hard in fundraising efforts for the major facilities renovation plans.
I think penn st was around 13th or 14th. I was reading it somewhere and there ainât no way I could find it again lol. CT I was also surprised A&M was number 1
