8 weeks and 2 days until Kickoff and Penn State is predicted to go 4-2 in the first 6 games with losses to Auburn and Michigan. Now, we all know this predictor thing is just what it is.....a predictor.  My question is this.  How does JF get this team two wins on the road against these two teams that - at best - are even with Penn State?  I can't for the life of me believe Auburn and/or Michigan has THAT much better returning talent than Penn State. I am giving Clifford the edge at QB vs both teams and I personally think it is going to come down to how well he leads this offense.  If he can settle down, pick up a nice win against Purdue and then HOPEFULLY have a solid game against Ohio, he should be ready for Auburn. Auburn is coming off of a 5 game losing streak, although they did take Bama into OT in of those losses.  But then again, Penn State took care of biz vs them last year and I still believe ( talent wise ) Penn State was better than their 7-6 record.

I think we are looking at an upcoming season very similar to last year......for the first 7 games.  I have Auburn as their last year Iowa game and Michigan as the Wisconsin game.  I just hope Minny ( or Ohio ) isn't their Illinois game from last year!!!! There was NO call for that loss and one would think these coaches are beyond this kind of let down NO MATTER what!

I am going 7-0 starting with a decisive win over Purdue!!!

GO STATE!!!

PS:  Don't want to wish my summer away, but I am getting anxious now!  LOL

@psujoe  I kind of agree with him remoh but I’m a little tougher on the auburn game. We have our starting QB back and we shouldn’t lose that game. I don’t care how close the game is just get the win. At Michigan will be a tough game and it won’t be a bad loss if we lose that game. James Franklin needs a 10 or better win season to get the heat off him. James Franklin is running out of time to get this thing fixed. Recruiting will fall off if we have another bad season. Being liked and graduating players just ain’t going to cut it in todays college football, you have to win and do them things especially making the money he is.

If we spend the season opener still trying to establish the run game, it'll be a long year.  If we see them start out with a balanced attack and settle in with what is working, we should be fine.

My favorite trick play is any one of our stable of RB's off tackle through a gigantic hole, into the secondary, breaking 2 tackles, and on his way to a 70 yd TD.  That one will get you 6 every time!

It all comes down to the O-Line.  A good OL can make an average RB look like a Heisman candidate.  A bad OL can make a Heisman RB look average....

@rip That hole opened by what "should be a strength this year" offensive line? (wouldn't that be nice if it happened finally, since no one is saying the O line will be as asset?)

Two things that I believe will be what makes or breaks our season:

1. Will the OL be good at run blocking or same garbage?

2. If the OL is still bad, will JF bury his head in the sand and just keep trying to run it anyway?

If that Oline doesn't show ANY improvement vs last year, then JF needs to man up and step down.  ALL eyes on the Oline's progress vs last year and he better dang well have made some changes/progress. I don't know how many Oline players were in the transfer portal this year, but there had to be enough to pull one or two guys from that want to play at Penn State and can play half decent. This ain't rocket science, you fire off the line of scrimmage and smack somebody in the mouth! 40,000 kids at Penn State.....there has to be at least 4 guys, 300Lbs and who like to drink and fight !! There has to be!! Go find them and pay for the education, JF!!!

No doubt, he is a good QB.  But he also lost his top weapon to Academics....and this could be a big game changer with his stats in 2022!

And opposing coaches definitely won't be expecting it !

It would help if the RB’s can break a tackle every once in a while and run over somebody instead of trying to be Barkley. QB play needs to be better and the OC needs to call plays that take some pressure off the OL. It’s not all on the OL everybody else had to do better and the OL will improve and just going on what y’all say, James Franklin needs to let the OC do his thing and stay out of the way and while we’re at it the defense needs to get a stop in crunch time when the game is on the line something Brent Pry struggled with. 10 or more wins on the way baby I just got a good feeling 😁

As of now, early bets have penn state a 3 point favorite.

15 scholarship linemen with 9 being 4 STAR recruits.  Even YOU could establish a run game with this crowd!! Positively NO excuse for us to watch another season of games with under a 100 yards of rushing!!!

@mtnittanylion  I’ve been saying talent is not the problem. Everybody isn’t on the same page is the problem and that’s James Franklin fault.

You're absolutely right, Southern.  As I posted previously on another thread:

According to Matt Millen, our ongoing OLine problems are due to poor coaching:

Q: You've mentioned the offensive line several times. Why has it been an issue the past few years?

Millen: It's the way they're teaching it. They're not physical. They just walk up to you. When you watch film, even the TV copy, just watch how much movement they get. Nobody's low, nobody comes off the ball, nobody rolls their hips. They go up and run into a guy and hold onto him. Watch Iowa's offensive line. Watch Michigan's offensive line. Michigan got better last year. And Ohio State has the best kids for the most part, but they're still being coached right and coming off the ball nicely.

Easy win at Auburn if

the B10 officials are as much homers as the SEC officials were at Happy Valley.

Seriously,  we have to be favored in a neutral venue by 6.  But it is preseason so anything can happen.

All I gotta say is that after the first 4 games I don't want to hear, "just one more year away, just wait till next year, we knew we would be rebuilding on D, damnit I didn't see the clock winding down, hey MY get the damn play in here, jesus christ can't we just settle on one primary RB, and ching ching it's the O'line, it's the O'line......" because if I do, the next thing I want to hear is, and in breaking news, PSU has fired JF and the search is on for the next HC......" followed up with by game 12, I told you MY should have been left alone to run the O....damnit, we'd be in the playoffs.
