See link to video above. We had our stats guy dive into a storyline that hasn't gotten a lot of talk - Penn State's increased use of hurry-up tempo midway through last season...which is totally uncharacteristic of a Kotelnicki offense and might suggest James told him to put his foot on the gas more after the OSU L. We excluded Hurry-Up plays run in 2-minute drill situations from our data. Some stats we couldn't cram in.
-Hurry-Up Plays per Game
Gms 1-8: 4.63 per game
Gams 9-16: 7.88 per game
--- Avg 8.3 yards per Hurry-up play (6.4 was the avg for all plays)
--- 23% of all Hurry-Up Plays resulted in an Explosive Play
--- 11% of all Hurry-Up Plays resulted in a Touchdown (29.0 yds/TD on Hurry-Up, which is nuts)
James Franklin likes a fast paste offense it’s what he was taught.
Robinson’s departure from Penn State came as a bit of a surprise. The Pittsburgh native and Brashear product was vying for a spot in the linebacker rotation this spring. And while he might have ended up as the backup, there was a chance for him to start in 2025.
Robinson, a former four-star recruit in the 2023 class, redshirted as a freshman before appearing in 14 games as a second-year player in 2024. He logged 99 defensive snaps and 11 tackles, working in a reserve role. Robinson also contributed on special teams.Cornerback Jon Mitchell landed at Georgia Tech while offensive lineman J.B. Nelson and defensive lineman Joseph Mupoyi have yet to settle on a new home.
@southern-psu-fan As much as I don't like seeing guys leave, it tells me they have better talent in front of them.
@been-there-ii very possible brother or could be about money 💰 we’ve lost some good players and we’ve gained a few.
You're both probably right. Maybe some of it is guys that got the talk from Franklin as he tries to pare down the roster to comply with the new max (I think it's 105?) because of the court decision allowing schools to pay players directly.
Former Penn State edge rusher Joseph Mupoyi, a recent entrant into the spring transfer portal, will play at Bill Belichick’s North Carolina program in the fall, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports and 247 Sports.
The 6-5, 285-pound Mupoyi, a four-star recruit, appeared in two games in 2024.
The spring transfer portal is open through Friday.
Six Penn State players have now entered the spring portal window: OL JB Nelson, LB Ta’Mere Robinson (committed to USC), CB Jon Mitchell (Georgia Tech), LB Beckham Dee, DL Joseph Mupoyi and Meyer.
I’ll be glad when the portal closes 😂
@southern-psu-fan There should only be one portal and that should open after the final game of the season (the National Championship game).
Penn St had 2 to go in the first round of the draft last night 2 top 14 picks I believe. I’m not sold on Cam or sanders as NFL QB’s they both struggled against good teams in college but you never know. The Falcons did really good in the draft imo we just need the QB and Head coach to get going and we’ll be okay.
After the transfer portal closes will they show the spring game on the big 10 network? I’m worried James Franklin doesn’t want us to see the backup QB’s play 😂 I’m just joking BT lol
@southern-psu-fan lol I'd like to see the backup QB too. Unfortunately, not going to be televised.
@been-there-ii My favorite QB is always the starting QB at Penn St lol
Sanders wasn't drafted yet so no one is sold on him either.Penn St had 2 to go in the first round of the draft last night 2 top 14 picks I believe. @roaminglion it’s all the hype last year when a lot of folks thought he’d be a top 5 pick and I just didn’t see it.
i forgot where it was now but I was reading from a post a few days ago and after reading it again it sounded like I was being sarcastic towards you Roam and I really didn’t mean it that way. I sometimes can be thinking of what other people say and type away even though I might be talking to you if it’s dealing with the conversation. Just saying I’d never be sarcastic in a rude or mean way towards you or anybody else on here. You know when I get excited just know I would never on purpose be an a$$ and rude towards you even if we disagree on something.
Sorry if you took it that way buddy
I didn't take it that way, LMAO sorry if you took mine that way!Sorry if you took it that way buddy
Somebody give Kobe King some bad advice. I thought Kobe King should’ve come back for another year. I didn’t think he got to the football fast enough. He’s a good football player but not good enough to leave for the NFL and leave money behind at the college level that he could’ve got. Hopefully he gets drafted I’m seeing him the 96th best player left on espn.
The Tennessee Titans selected safety Kevin Winston Jr. with the 82nd overall pick in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft on DAY. Winston was the third Nittany Lion drafted so far, following Abdul Carter (No. 3, New York Giants) and Tyler Warren (No. 14, Indianapolis Colts).
update on Penn St players.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Lawrence Taylor wants newly drafted New York Giants pass rusher Abdul Carter to create his own legacy, one that won't include wearing the No. 56 that Taylor made famous during his legendary career.
Taylor told ESPN that the two spoke Saturday morning, two days after Carter was the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft out of Penn State. It came after Carter reached out through intermediaries about potentially wearing Taylor's retired number.
i agree with LT
Yeah, I don't get asking to wear a RETIRED number.
There's confidence and then there's arrogance. I really like Carter but that smacks of the latter.
Unfortunately I think it's indicative of the younger generation.
Well the Giants caved in to this nonsense when they allowed Malik Neighbors to wear #1 last year as that number is also retired by the New York Giants...Not only was it retired but it was the very first number ever retired in the NFL...Ray Flaherty had the number retired in 1935...Ironically this isn't a new thing as it was unretired in 1945 and 1946 so Frank Cope could wear it...So I guess this isn't a new thing after all...LOL...I am with you Roam...When you retire a number that's it...It should never be worn again...PERIOD...
