Not that it matters, but I was wondering.... aren't there NCAA regs regarding uniforms? If so, when were they changed to allow bermuda shorts instead of traditional football pants that covered the knee cap? Like I said, no big deal, but I'm just curious. Kinda like deep, dark window tint on automobiles used to be against the law in PA, but now just about every car has them. Was that law changed. or simply no longer enforced?
@rip Page 145 of the 2025 NCAA Football Regulations, which I have posted below for your convenience, clearly shows that pants above the knee are "non-compliant". If officials can't enforce this simple rule properly, what hope is there that officials will ever enforce any rule in a fair and impartial manner?
And since we are talking about the rules, I don't like the disparity between violations by the offense and violations by the defense. If it is 1st and 10 and the defense commits a hold, the penalty is 10 yards and an automatic first down. The defense gets what it earned. However, if the offense commits a hold and gains 0 yards, the result is either 1st and 20 if the penalty is accepted or 2nd and 10 if the penalty is declined. The offense does not get what it earned.
I feel that the offense should always lose the down. If they run the 1st down play and commit a holding infraction, the next play should be 2nd and 20 if the result of the play was anywhere between a 0-yard gain and a score. The team gets what they earned. If they run a 3rd down play, lose 7 yards, and commit a holding infraction, the next play should be 4th and 17 yards from the prior spot. Once again, the team would get what they earned.
@rip Every news cast, I get to hear how great/world beaters Syr sports are, whether they are or not. Yep, don't care for Syr sports, unless they've actually accomplished something.
I noticed the shorts watching the 'Nova game & thought, Where's the knee pads??? Always wondered if they really did much protecting.
