So, why do we even have waivers now? He even stated "My overall experience at UGA was fully consistent with UGA's commitment to diversity and inclusion. My sister is a softball player at UGA. I am still close friends with many of my UGA teammates. A part of me will always be a Georgia Bulldogs fan."

If that's true, what effing hardship did he have other than not starting?

Southern, I'm starting to come over to your side... I hate zero tolerance, but if this is the nonsense we're going to get with waivers it's better off not having them at all

Of course it was waved, it’s Ohio State ( I said sarcastically ). As Jim Rome once said on his radio show many years ago, college football needs Ohio State. Such a doofis.

Just like everything else you have to punish everybody to teach a few a lesson. It’s total BS because 99% of Bulldawgfans licked his butt. He’s not good enough to start at Georgia so he’s using the race card to transfer. It  stinks because we really do have racism out there that does need attention but this just isn’t the case and the crooked ncaa knows it. This transfer thing really needs to be fixed before it ruins college football. I also believe the NFL needs to raise the draft age to 22 that way we kind of force these kids to get a college degree  which will be good for the 98% that doesn’t make the NFL. Just my opinion though. Let me say if they’ve graduated then they can enter the draft at 21

Like I said before, grad transfers play right away, everyone else sits a year.  No waivers, they are only invitations for abuse.

I'd imagine there is a lawsuit in the making not allowing players to transfer and the NCAA knows this and is easing into this model pretty damn quick. College football will transition to an entirely new game model over the next 3-5 years. Put your flack jackets on!

This is a terrible precedent.  Now every player who gets insulted is free to transfer without sitting.  Which means every player is free to transfer without sitting.

What it will do is cut a coach's unmet promise of telling All-Star Johnny he is gonna start if he signs b/c if he doesn't he or his parents are gonna say bye, we are going shopping, can't get into the NFL if he isn't playing.

It's no longer college football.  The game that embodied the ideals of team over individual, dedication, loyalty, honoring commitments is now dead.  It has deteriorated into a minor league system for the NFL that glorifies prima dona adolescents and caters to maximizing the opportunities for the players (and their parents) to become instant millionaires.  As in everything else, follow the money.

Why do I get the feeling that Fields knew he was getting the waiver before he transferred??

Since he retained a lawyer upfront, I'd say you're feeling is right on.
