All this happened because we recruited the wrong style QB. Yes. We can't get open, we can't stop the run, our playcalling isn't the best...

...but it's all because we played a Pro-Style QB.

If we only kept Pribula or played Grunk more, we'd be 7-1 or 8-0. Blame Allar for it all.

@psujoe

I'm just sick of people blaming one kid, then after explaining 1,000,000 times that I don't think Allar was that good and I couldn't care less if he was benched, I have to hear the rebuttall that I love Allar and I also loved Hack.

I have stated a bunch of time Allar was a symptom... meaning he was a product of the coaching. New QB, same results. Now I have to hear he's young... that's the new excuse.

Unprepared, doesn't progress, underthrows, int's in key situations, actually regresses, etc. etc. by all the QBs under Franklin.

So sick of the BS

Agree

And I'll throw in, both DA and CH put it all out there during different times and circumstances and I respect that; I don't think either either ever complained and I haven't heard Hack say anything different since he has been away from the program. The coaching problem is the root and has been for a damn long time. And, I'll go ahead and say, JF is the common denominator and I've said that for years. He's a good coach but he's not built to win the big one nor were his teams, at least not mentally.

Side note: VA Tech is a great landing spot for him. He'll recruit the hell out of VA and MD; and there will not be the expectation of winning NCs year and year out, Tech will be satisfied with winning 9-10 games/year and a bowl or first round playoff. That takes the pressure off of JF and plays into his wheel house, 9-10 wins/yr and running a solid program. Anywhere else where a Natty is commanded, he is toast.

Agreed.

Also, I can think JF needed to be fired and that under his watxh QBs didn't develop... and also think that he did very good things here and thank him for steering the program through some tough times. I truly wish him well and hope he can get over that hump wherever he lands... I just didn’t think it was gonna happen here anymore.

I feel bad for these QB's...It is quite obvious that they are woefully unprepared and that falls squarely on the coaching staff...The bottom line is these guys gotta go...The offensive leadership or more accurately lack of leadership from this coaching staff has been a disgrace...They need to fire this OC immediately...He is really that bad...

@roaminglion he is young and it’s not an excuse, that’s the facts the dude is a freshman starting his second game. The symptom BS is something you come up with this year after you were blaming all the WR’s for the last 2 years. I’ll give you it’s James franklins fault. There’s a few of us here that’s guilty of blaming whoever they think the problem was including me and you.

Got to watch today's game. Offense looks the same to me; Grunk not leading receivers and we keep trying to pound the ball up the middle. Even my 12 yr old granddaughter, that doesn't know anything about football, commented as such.

Nonsense, WRs were a problem last year and I didn't say it was just them. Invent any BS you want.

I even said before the season we had better WRs but Allar has to improve if we were gonna take the next step. I also wasn't sure Franklin would ever win a big one

Ethan Grunkemeyer isn’t going to get exponentially better in the off-season. What you see is what you’ll get. It was true for Drew and it’s true for Ethan. Just start clamoring for Jaxon Smolik.

I believe #14 is banged up and was hurt. DA is a big tough kid so he can take the hits #14 will get killed running the RPO he’s already banged up. We have 2 hurt QB’s right now because they’re being asked to do something that doesn’t fit their play.

Played 2 games and Grunk has hit his ceiling?  Wow, that is disappointing.  And I thought he had a chance to be in the top 5 PSU QB's of all time 🙂

In all honesty, we have not had great QB's.  Blackledge, Mc___, what's his name in 94?  But in 94 there were three or four Heisman candidates on the team and the OLine allowed less sacks all year than some teams allow in a game.

2 games, Iowa and OSU (slightly above average defenses), and Grunk is on the scrap heap of PSU QB's?  We complain because our coaches can't develop a QB but we are to give up on Grunk.

Fickle we are.  I think I will just throw in the towel and find another cheep leisure activity.

@underlion I ain’t giving up on Grunk I believe he’s going to be a good QB. It was his second start and he’s a freshman. I’m thinking Kularrow was being a little sarcastic 😂 but after 5 straight losses and the Jackets taking it on the chin last night I don’t know anymore 😂

I'm sarcastic a lot.  Hard to recognize in print....need an emoji.  Our best QB's of late have not had the stats.  Boy that OSU QB and receivers killed us.

I was OK with JF, losing to ND was bad but tolerable but the UCLA debacle and then.  Just felt like he was a ball stuck between humps and eventually he was going to end up at the bottom between the two humps.  He needed to get over while he had recruiting momentum but he was losing his recruiting momentum, the thing we thought his salesman personality could do.  I was always suspect why coaches didn't stay with him but I guess everyone thinks they want the next level.....

@southern-psu-fan WTF are you talking about? Grunk ran the ball a total of zero times yesterday. He did not rush the ball once. How is he being asked to do something he isn't good at? He either handed the ball off or dropped back to pass. If he isn't good at that, he shouldn't be playing.

@roaminglion I was talking about #14 and #15 not Grunk. Both are banged up because they’re being asked to run an offense that doesn’t fit what their skills are. I didn’t say anything about Grunk. Grunk is #17

I did hear this morning that Brent Key had or has a meeting with Penn State. The dude on locked on nittany lions was talking about it. It really doesn’t matter who we want but it’s fun to hope your guy gets the job. I’d still rather have manny over Key because I believe Manny will be the perfect head coach for Penn St and I’m all about winning.

Ya can't tell a player w/o a program! Player names I can remember, player numbers, not so much.

lol When my kid was playing college ball and I went to watch a practice, he told me "Watch for my HS basketball #. That's me!" No clue what his BB jersey # was, 'cause I just had to look for his ugly mug. Stick a helmet on him, couldn't tell!

It is a crime if they don't develop this kid Grunk because he has all the tools to be a fantastic QB...They just need to clean house and bring in a whole new staff...

@roaminglion hey buddy sorry about snapping at you last night,  heck I get just as frustrated as everybody else does maybe more when it comes to Penn St winning football games knowing we have the talent to win. If we don’t have the talent I’m usually very patient and understanding. Men,ego’s, testosterone and sports can get heated at times but I guess that’s what makes it fun sometimes 😂

Same to you buddy, you can probably tell I have been beyond frustrated since UCLA. Sorry for snapping as well

Oh Grunk will develop just fine with OSU's receivers and an offensive line....team sport it is.  Mediocre coaching would be nice.  A regular Kerry Collins he will be.  Anyone going to tell me Kerry had a great QB coach?  Amazing how Alabama has had so many 'awesome' QB's from 2012-2022.  Dan Marino was great in Miami because he had 'a quick release'.  Bravo Sierra.  He had a great O-line.
