Head coaching search? Two names that immediatly come to mind are:

1. Joe Moorhead

2. Matt Ruhle

Anyone else?

Clemson’s OC. Matt Ruhle would be the best option in my opinion, dude is doing good. Temples HC is doing good as well Roam?

James Franklin

If he leaves, we will lose a great recruiting class.

None of the above names mentioned will even think about head  coaching job at Penn State.  The fan base is brutal.  That's why Bill O'Brien skyrocketed out of Happy Valley , and Franklin will be next. I can tell you one thing for sure,  Franklin wasn't happy with the altercation between himself and a fan after the MSU game.  Don't think for a second that Franklin doesn't have intentions of leaving,  because he does. He's a multi millionaire with absolutely nothing to lose.

JF isn't going anywhere unless he want's to take a step backwards.  USC might be at a point where they would hire ANYONE that could ease the fan/Alumni base concerns for now, but JF would only be a band aid at this point. His success at Penn State would ease tensions at USC, but it will take years to rebuild USC and Franklin already spent years doing that at PSU.  Why would he want to start all over again?  Even though he is taking criticism right now for some of his losses and play calling, he is also tasting success and with his ego, he ain't going backwards to help jump start another program.

As far as brutal fan base, JVP took as much if not more HEAT than any other coach out there and never left.  Franklin hasn't felt anything at this point.  If he goes to USC and doesn't get it done, he will bounced out quickly and then what?  With another Major Bowl lingering this year and the potential to have another top 10 team in 2019, the guy is staying put. If for some reason he does leave, then he is dumber than a box of rocks!

And BTW, Joe Moorehead would take the PSU HC coaching job in a heartbeat. If he doesn't, then my 80 year old father in law would! He keeps telling me he would be 11-0 if he was the HC this year! LOL

If James leaves I celebrate!! We'll be able to start our search for the coach that will take us to the next level much earlier than I  anticipated!

Maybe you should apply. Penn State doesn't need fans like you.

JF's gig may very well be going in to a program on the skids, getting solid recruiting classes, stabilizing with 9-3; 10-2 win records and moving on. If he stays at PSU he has to get AC's in place that can perform consistently at the next level and not blow 4th quarter leads and sometimes significant 4th quarter leads. If he can pull that off he's golden; otherwise he keeps moving about every 6-8 years until he finds a fan base like Iowa's. And Iowa in terms of potential ain't no PSU IMOP.

Not sure everyone gets what "just for fun" means. All I wanted was to hear who you think could be a candidate, not why Franklin will never leave or why no one would take the job. LMAO

Matt Ruhle is an excellent choice, did  a great job at Temple..AS you point out, Geoff Collins at TU Has done an excellent  job this yr after losing first two to Villanova and Buffalo, it looked like  a long yr..TU is now 7-4, and gave UCF all it could handle losing 52-40, after leading at halftime 34-28...I hope you're the only guy that has noticed; I want him to stay at TU, who has lost Al Golden, Steve Addazio, Matt Ruhle after all three did good jobs..Enough his enough 😉

I dont think Helton deserves to be fired, not after two double digit win seasons, a Rose Bowl win, and  aPAC-12 championship..That is ridiculous, but the fan base/alumni allegedly have the pressure on..ThE Trojans have suffered many injuries, plus he's breaking in a freshman QB..It be my guess cooler heads prevail, but that is  a guess..

I agree CT plus they are still recovering from sanctions regardless of  what people might think.
