So I’m guessing Kotelnicki and some other coordinators will be getting a raise. Need to lock these guys up for years.
Will be interesting to see how/who he sets as starters and potential position changes. And if players come over from OSU with him
Good
-Hopefully the double whammy, help yourself while hurting your biggest competitor. Hardly the Yankees getting Babe Ruth but....
-Is a defensive coordinator allowed to make his own offense look bad? Maybe a better defensive coordinator would expose our offense before the third game?
-Somebody said PSU has more CEO's than anyone else. That is real NLM (Nittany Lion Money, Read NIL). They just have to work thru the Paterno upset condition.
LMAO now the OSU journalists are saying there was a rift between Knowles and Day that developed after the Oregon game. That Knowles "couldn't admit he was wrong" and Day "demanded" he change... even though there was no hint of this until he left hours ago.
OSU reporters trying to say Knowles ego "couldn't handle" the demanding atmospher that is Ohio State. This, again, coming from reporters who over a month ago praised Knowles and the defense after the UM loss and bashed Day.
@roaminglion Was a huge step up from previous job to Ohio State. Sorta downgrade going to PSU coming from OSU but I guess he is from Pennsylvania so it is home.
@the-funeral-director: We might want to pump the brakes on that one. Im hearing that his particular defense takes a two years to completely grasp. Hopefully its a smooth transition.
And? Typical arrogant mentality that it's okay for you to poach coaches from "lesser" programs but then trash outgoing coaches when another program does it to you.@roaminglion Was a huge step up from previous job to Ohio State. As long as we have a good handle on it by CFP time, I think we will be okay. We should only lose 2 MAX next year. Hopefully less.@the-funeral-director: We might want to pump the brakes on that one. Next year’s going to be all on Allar now and there’s no more excuses. Hopefully they can get his mental issues straightened out and he doesn’t continue down this path of being Hackenburg 2.0.
@roaminglion now Knowles ain’t Ohio State material 😂
While he's no Hack... you're right. New WRs, very good TEs, and what should be an elite running attack.Next year’s going to be all on Allar now and there’s no more excuses. Hopefully they can get his mental issues straightened out and he doesn’t continue down this path of being Hackenburg 2.0.
I am hoping for is one or two more portal WR additions in the spring window, maybe some defenders see Knowles here and want to be a part of it too.
Knowles hire paying off already! From Yahoo Sports:
But there’s more acquisition news in Happy Valley: Anthony Poindexter, the program’s co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach, is expected to remain on staff by signing a new multi-year contract with an increased salary — a deal that’s resulted in him turning down interest from power conference schools in their coordinator openings, sources tell Yahoo Sports.Franklin and Poindexter held a conversation earlier this week when it became apparent that Penn State had an opportunity to hire Knowles. “We could really get Jim?” he told Franklin.Poindexter even discussed the job with Knowles over the last few days, committing to remaining on staff if Knowles were hired to run the defense.
DA is just 20 and some of these QB’s are in their 6th year 23 or 24 years old so I’m hoping that he matures mentally and steps his game up big time and leads Penn State to a National Championship. He definitely has the talent to get it done and I’m his biggest cheerleader to get it done, he’s our QB. Just win baby!

I’m wondering if we may be one of the schools offering money to the OSU receivers to transfer.
Would it be collusion for each B10 East school to poach an OSU player. Would the feds get involved for restraint of trade 🙂 Can't do it in business. So everyone can poach OSU players...they just can't have an agreement.
It really is a new world...the wild west. Saban couldn't afford it.
I would not be shocked if we didn't offer big money to one of these big time WR's...
So from what I can gather on the OSU boards and rumors about Knowles, it seems like we can thank an ex-Penn Stater for sending him our way. After sifting through the loyalty/he sucks/OSUfanboy junk it seems like Knowles and Larry Johnson had an uneasy relationship. Knowles wanting to implement his full scheme, while Larry Johnson wanted to keep 4 down lineman and not deviate from it. For a while Day allowed Johnson to meddle, until the Oregon game. After that game, apparently Knowles became irate at being hamstringed and not able to run his full scheme.
After Oregon, that all changed. What seems to be the consensus opinion over there is that after Oregon, Knowles was given full autonomy over the defense and what he could do. So... that defense we saw in the 2nd game against Oregon was the real Knowles defense. From Oregon on he did what he wanted, and then came here under the impression he's going to run exactly what he wants.
It also doesn't seem like he has any intentions of being a head coach again, that he likes being a DC. So... if he keeps doing what he does, and we keep him well paid I think he's here for a while. Family is close and he grew up in PA. Both him and his wife met at Cornell, which also isn't that far away.
@roaminglion I’ve heard that Knowles wanted out of OSU and contacted us on Friday after the NC game.
Yup, I've read that too. Of course it's just online banter, but several on here (you included) seem to have good information from other sources and are saying the same thing.@roaminglion I’ve heard that Knowles wanted out of OSU and contacted us on Friday after the NC game.
Seems like he really soured on his experience there. Their loss is our gain, and to me it seems like we might be his dream job when you factor in family and culture. To me, he doesn't seem like a city guy... I think State College is more his speed than Columbus.
I keep hearing on these podcast shows I’m listening too and sounds like it takes 3 years to get Jim Knowles system in place. Jim Knowles better get this shit going in year one we ain’t got time to wait 3 years. 3 million dollars he better hit the ground running day one unless these are early excuses?
@southern-psu-fan SPF, my brother, give the man a chance before you start gathering pitchforks and lighting torches. Plenty of time to roast his ass after the season starts! 🤣 Maybe PSU has more scholar athletes than, not here to play school types and may grasp his coaching concepts quicker.
Forget about 3 years. I just hope it doesn't take until halftime for him to make adjustments!
@rip There is that! Drove me crazy waiting for 1/2 time defense adjustments.
