Not sure what to make of them, other than their defense is really, really good. Their offense doesn't seem to have a lot of firepower, only 160 yards on the day.

Iowa has a great defense...typical iowa team and ferentz is a great coach...physical team that grinds...Gonna be a tough game at Kinnick...Penn State has a rough path to the tournament...If they get through this schedule and win the B1G which will be no small task they deserve to be in the playoff...

Personally I think he's been one of the best coaches in all of CFB, you'd be hard pressed to find a coach that has done more with less for such a long period of time. Not sure why elite recruits are so anxious to play in places like OK but don't want to play in Iowa, but man if Ferentz would have found a way to bring in elite recruiting classes he would probably at least be a dynasty in the B1G West.

For offensive players? It's cold weather, 20 years of up tempo offense, and history/tradition. That's basically why Norman gets more players than Iowa on that side of the ball.
As for defense, Iowa is consistently better in that respect.
@psujoe coach Ferentz is a lot like the goat joe Paterno, he goes after the players that fits his system. Iowa does get good football players they’re a top 25 team in recruiting I would think plus he keeps his guys for 4 or 5 years. He’s got a great system
@southern-psu-fan I believe Ferentz only ever had one class that was ranked in the top 25 and it was the 2021 class which was ranked #24. His 2022 class is currently #61 and the rest of his classes probably average a ranking in the high 40's to low 50's.

Iowa style is basically win in the trenches. Just build those guys up, and hope to get some playmakers here and there. It has served them well.
