This article basically says he was pissed that coaches wanted him to act like a football player, and then when it was clear he couldn't they would medically retire him from the team.
So... he wasnt living up to the standards set for the team, they saw it was too much for him mentally, and stated if he could not turn it around it would be best for him and them to move on.
So he wanted it both ways... wanted to plqy football even though it was too much for him, but also wants sympathy for it being too much for him.
