It seems history has a sense of humor, as it's FSU to be the school to complain about being passed over for an SEC champion when they went undefeated. Rewind it back to 1993, when FSU won the NC over Notre Dame who was #2. Notre Dame had beaten them that year as well, which is interesting to say the least. but..... there's more.

Florida State beat Nebraska in a bowl game and then solidified the #1 spot in the polls. Nebraska fell to #3. So the polls were:

  1. Florida State (12-1)
  2. Notre Dame (11-1)
  3. Nebraska (11-1)

Who was #4 you might ask... well let me tell you: Undefeated Auburn (11-0) How about that? I guess Florida State didn't much care about undefeateds being passed over back then when it benefitted them, so no big deal! Sure they were banned from a bowl game, but they weren't banned from being voted #1.

I found that interesting.

IMO it was the Tom Osborne sympathy award for Bobby Bowden that year. Play on the field didn’t matter
