I’ve been wanting to believe what I was reading about this team here and on other websites and trying to stay at least somewhat positive but what I’ve been seeing on the field from game one was the exact opposite of what a serious NC contender looks like. Serious QB issues, WR’s are never open, questionable play calling and coaching decisions and a defense that can’t get stops when needed. Today’s game really wasn’t a shock and to be honest I’m really not that upset.

The only question that remains in my mind is whether we’ll defeat a P4 team this season and is this the year that we lose to Rutgers?

Just resumes and POTENTIAL 🙂

3 practice games hid weaknesses and then the loss of a critical LB seemed to be a psychological problem.  Then the Potential of our QB was not close to realized.

@underlion

I, along with most NITS, fell for the hype and got caught up in the dream of a Natty at last.  Truth is, we were never really that good and now I suspect we're far worse than anyone imagined.

0-6 was always on my mind…0-7 now after the Oregon game.  I do believe going forward we’ll be better with another QB but I hate DA got hurt I never want to see that.

But it was the only way we would see another QB.

Now I will turn the knife, how is Beau doing?

I know we only saw Grunk for one play but in that play it was obvious that he has been taught the exact things that have destroyed Allar. If I didn’t know better and watched the replay I probably would think it was Allar because Grunk looked exactly like him.

@underlion a lot better than DA even though he didn’t have a great game today against Alabama but he played ok.  The INT was a killer at the end but it was Alabama and they had a chance to get the win. I can handle losing to the Tide it’s NW and UCLA that’s unacceptable.

I’m Not going to judge him on one play, but I am not expecting anything different next week versus Iowa. In fact, I would bet that our offense gets even more conservative.

Here is what I saw Homer...I saw a returning roster full of players who came within a last minute interception of making the national championship game last year...I am not the only person who had big expectations as most had us ranked either #1 or #2 in the country to start the season...I still don't think this is a roster issue...I think this is a coaching issue...I still think this is a top 10 roster...

Why get more conservative?  Have fun now.  UCLA had fun at our expense.

Our non conservative stuff is goofy runs that blow up when one defensive player gets into the backfield.  No passes because a JoePa said only 3 things happen when you throw and two aren't good.  He was wrong, if you throw smart you get an Interference and statistically I suspect DA has gotten a low interference rate because he doesn't throw smart.  But I guess you have to trust your receivers to draw the interference.

That was Joe that said that?

I agree with Underlion...No sense in going conservative now...The season is done...Time to let her rip and see how it goes as they got nothing to lose at this point...

@underlion I don’t believe it was the goat that said that it was woody I believe but I could be wrong but it wasn’t the goat Joe Paterno for sure.

Go out have fun and let it rip. We ain’t got shit to lose! Shame on you James Franklin you screwed this team with your own selfish decisions. Fire his ass tonight!

6 of 9 for 35 fudging yards at the half and we don’t give the other QB a chance? I don’t believe James Franklin wanted to win today

Question that nobody asks is how many/what plays does the OC call?  We can make some big resume coordinators look bad and yet a lot of coaches have left the program for promotions.

We are a perfect example of why I don’t believe in ranking teams based on speculation. We didn’t look good in any of our no con games but were still raked in the top 5 for what reason? Because of last year? Last year was last year and means nothing in the current season.

I also didn’t believe in the message that was being sent that we’re national championship favorites because we were doing what Michigan and OSU did by bringing players back. It was the wrong message as was Franklin saying this roster and coaching staff was the best he’s ever had.

All we did was set ourselves up for failure.

8 minute postgame, JFF takes full responsibility (answer to 3 or 4 questions).  When told that it looked like he was more involved in play calling he said 'not sure where that is coming from, same as every game at PSU.'  Really?  Every game is the same, odd.  He immediately left after that question.  Don't know if time was up or he had enough.

And then there was the question about whether he still wanted to be at PSU which he didn’t answer.

He said 'for me it's about the players, yada yada, I get it, blah blah, get to work, etc etc love the players...my commitment is to the players.

Is it best for your career to be at PSU?....I take full responsibility

I think a ladies voice ends it and he walks off.

Know your clichés!

This ain’t hard my brothers. James Franklin doesn’t call the plays on offense and he never has, we have a QB that can’t do what we want to do on offense and it kills everything you want to do on offense. He might get involved on 4th downs and a play here and there but 99% of the time Yurcich and AK were calling the plays plain and simple you just get the same results if your QB is bad.Turn Grunkenmeyer loose and you’ll see I’m right but that doesn’t mean we’ll win out but the offense will look like a competent offense. Now James Franklin does control who gets benched and that’s why his ass should’ve been fired last night. Do the same shit, get the same shit. When McSorely and Clifford was losing to Ohio State and Michigan the teams they had were just better we didn’t lose because the QB was stinking up the field we were scoring a good amount of points. James Franklin sucks and DA sucks trying to run an offense he should’ve never been recruited to run I saw this shit up close in the peach bowl and I told y’all this had a bad ending.

The first three games showed the status of the team and coaches to a T.

  • Play calling
  • Undersized D'Line
  • Uncoordinated D'
  • Wrong QB and wrong type of QB for O scheme
  • Wrong starting RB
  • Overall poor transfer portal player integration
  • JF skill set in pressure situation; could not handle the hype but also didn't have the right horses for the courses; and can't seem to change the jockey no matter what; and is clearly the common denominator at this stage.

IMO, JF is a very good start up HC, but then needs to leave when the rubber really starts hitting the pavement. I said years ago, Ron Zook like.

Football is no different than any other business organization and the type of leadership needed at different stages of Org Dev crosses over.

JF, imo, would be great at getting programs e.g. any of the lower performing FL schools, VA TECH, UVa, west coast schools up and running, and then moving on.

The new rules make it much more difficult to transition from 'Turn-around coach' to bringing in a long term championship coach.  The transition faze is more difficult than ever.  Why I wanted to avoid it.

An upset of OSU seems to be the only thing that 'rights the ship'.  I use the term 'rights' loosely.

I was thinking that at least he doesn't go for it on 4th down on his side of the field as much anymore.  And those were HC calls.
