Definitely made a difference but the over reliance on him in some ways stifled the offense.
He is one of the biggest of PSU's play makers...
Last year people were crying they were not getting him the ball enough now its to much. When the ball did go to Hamler was he not open? Why did the ball go to Hamler? What position were the other players in? Where the match ups in favor of Hamler?
Hamler and Pat were and are PSU's elite play makers they should get the lions share.

It definitely let the other team know what was coming. I guess you do what you gotta do.
I think what PSU needed was another “go to” receive. Obviously Shorter wasn’t the guy.
Don't disagree, They had WR's on the field...
Where they getting open?
Was Clifford seeing his first read open and taking it?
Was Clifford not going through his progressions if the #1 WR was covered?
There is a #1 and then a progression a QB goes through on a play call.

Were they getting open? Yes

Was Clifford not going through his progressions if the #1 WR was covered? No, IMO this is where improvement will be seen next year.

That is how I see it...
You cant fault going to Hamler if the play is there....
Yes Clifford must improve seeing the entire field and going through progressions.
If scouting reports show a team is targeting a particular receiver because he is "elite" and "getting the lion's share" I would think you'd know what to expect and plan accordingly.

Yes they do plan to slow down elite players and elite players still make plays regardless of that plan.
You asked how so , so I told you how so.
You told me nothing...
"I would think you'd know what to expect and plan accordingly."
Yes team do this to try and take away the elite player, elite players defy the scheme and still make plays.
You rely on your elite players to make plays and get them the football, I hope we are not complaining about getting the ball to our best player.

My same exact thought when I read your post...
Is Hamler coming back I ain’t heard anything and we’ve been wide open at work this week so I ain’t had much time to look?

Have not heard a word... Looks like many have him early 3rd round. If he stays and has a big year he could make himself more money.
Truly elite players overcome game-planning against them. Chase Young is double teamed almost every game (except by us for some reason LOL) yet continues to find a way to get to the QB.
That said, it also helps that Young has a great DL helping him out. Hamler probably would not have been as effective if Friermuth wasn't doing well also. Both might have done even better if Clifford was better at his progressions or trusted his outside receivers more, it would have opened up the middle of the field.
If Hamler comes back, all I hope is Clifford throws to him when open... but also comes off him quicker when he isn't and takes what the defense gives him. More medium passes too, we seemed to go big or throw 0-5 yards. Some 5-20 yard passing routes would be nice, however I think some of that was because Clifford just wasn't throwing them when they were available
