I believe he would be a great get for Penn State if James Franklin leaves. What do y’all think? He would be a long term coach to as long as we are winning. He’s done tried the NFL

I think he would work out.  I 'd put him as my 2nd choice.  My 1st choice would be JoMo.  I think either of these guys would be in it for the long haul.  My 3rd choice would be Yurcich.  I really like him, but I put him 3rd because I don't think he'd stay long.  He's talented and somebody would pay big $$$$ and steal him away from us.

Not ever going to happen. He was run out of the Tennessee HC position for his connections to what happened here.

You think after everything, Penn State would hire someone that would bring that type of PR back? Not a chance in heck.

Go look at what happened when Tennessee tried to hire him as HC. You want that PR nightmare, count me out.

Why would he be a great get? I believe that would be equal to or less than Franklin. I want a coach who is a proven winner, a guy who takes a good team to great.  NOT another guy who takes a team from mediocre to good!

@navylion  what we see is what we get with this coaching staff I’d rather take my chances with somebody else. Sanctions are over there is no excuse for the last 2 years. You either get it done or you don’t and if you ain’t gettin it done a change is needed.

@roaminglion

I'm sick and tired of seeing good people being blackballed from coaching at PSU because of their "connection" to the Sandusky scandal.  The spineless BOT fired Paterno and, in my opinion, hastened his death.  Tom Bradley and Larry Johnson are 2 others who have been screwed over by the gutless powers that be at Penn State.  If the BOT hadn't caved to the media blood lust and the sanctimonious politically correct crowd and handled the issue properly, there would be no PR issue.  It was a Sandusky problem and should never have been permitted to be characterized as a Penn State problem.  There was no cover up, the issue was investigated and adjudicated by the legal authorities and the perpetrator (Sandusky) was punished.  It's about time the powers that be at  Penn State grow some calhouns and stand up and do what is right.  Hire the best person for the job, stop chasing PR ghosts!  End of story.

Right so pick a coach with a winning history! Schiano is far from it, another OK coach not an elite coach! Schiano has NEVER gotten it done!

Agree 100%, hire the best person, most elite coach out there for the job! And just because someone played at Penn state does not mean they are the best person for the job. Look, I am as big a Joepa fan as anyone. BUT, because someone played at Penn state, or played under Joepa, does not mean they should come back to Penn State to be the head coach. That is just ridiculous!

I agree 1000% Navy.  Personally, I'm not that impressed by Schiano.  He wouldn't be my 1st choice.  However, I don't agree with writing him off because he'd be a PR problem because of the Sandusky "connection".

@navylion  He got it done at Rutgers his first time around it’s still to early to judge him now but I do see a lot of improvement this time around. NFL is a different breed. He’s never really had a chance at a top job in college. I didn’t know he played at Penn St I thought he just coached as an assistant coach. One thing I do know is it ain’t gettin better with this coaching staff. I like James Franklin and man I wanted it to work but it just isn’t.

You're right Southern.  Sciano never played for PSU.  He played linebacker for the Bucknell Bisons.  He was an assistant coach at PSU from 1991-1995.

Never said he did. I was referring to people thinking cause Matt Ruhle played at PSU he should be the next head coach. Or think the next head coach should have some prior affiliation to PSU as a pre-requisite. But, previously heard people mention Schiano before JF hiring that cause he had ties to the school he would be a good candidate. I should have clarified better, sorry.

BUT, what did Schiano get done at Rutgers? In 11 seasons his first go around he had 1 11 win season in 2006 which put Rutgers tied for 2nd in the Big East. He had 2 9 win seasons and 2 8 win seasons and 4 seasons with less than 4 wins. The other 2 seasons were 7-5 and 5-7.

He had a total win loss record in the Big East when he left of 68-67 and a conference record of 28-48.

In the Big 10 he has an overall record of 8-11, 5-11 conference.

His overall college head coach coaching record is 76-78. THAT's the dude you think should be our next coach? WTF??

Gosh dang, Franklin's 11 year win loss 90-47 over all. Shiano IMO would be a major downgrade and a step backwards! If the choice is JF or Schiano, I'll stick with JF!!!!
