I guess sportswriters and talking heads need to come up with material to justify there existence.  Yahoo’s Pete Thamel listed Franklin as the top name to know for the Florida State job.  IMHO it ain't gonna happen!

I agree Bob. But what they say might be true to a point, FSU might want him as well as other schools, why wouldn't they want a guy who has been successful at taking programs down and making them competitive again!

But, that doesn't mean Franklin has any interest in the jobs.

Navylion, do you think Penn St might step up and pay him more? I don’t think he’s leaving regardless but why take a chance lol

I don't think they will unless he is entertaining taking another job. I might be wrong but I don't think he is the kind of guy to play games with the admin just to get more money. Heck a couple of years ago all he was worried about was getting his assistants more money. But, you never know.

I read that article and Thamel lists 10 other coaches too. I think it’s Thamel that started the Franklin to USC rumor, in my opinion, just bate for readers though I really hope Franklin isn’t seriously considering any move. Who knows, life changing money would get anyone’s attention. As for Florida State, that place is a mess, good luck getting a quality coach there.

I agree he doesn’t seem to be money hungry plus he does make great money anyway.

I agree Southern.  At some point the kind of money he's making should be enough!  You'd think other considerations would come into play like job security, administration, alumni and fan support.etc, etc.

First he was going to USC... Now FSU... This is Jay Wright and Villanova all over again... He ain't going anywhere...both of those jobs are a step down from where he is now... This is all wishful thinking from Penn Live and their ilk.. .He ain't going anywhere... Too funny...

What Franklin makes in Happy Valley is already life changing.

@bobs-dimpled-chin

I don't see JF leaving Penn State anytime soon.  If he get's an offer and it becomes about the money, then I would let him go elsehwere. Penn State didn't survive because they hired JF, it survived because it is a great university with a solid foundation for academics and a competitive athletics program.

If you strictly look at the football program only, they have been bowl eligilble by record every year since the sanctions went to into effect until today.  In fact, they held the lead in all but one game the first two years of the sanctions when they where crippled by the NCAA.  What JF has done since taking over is outstanding and he has no doubt taken this program to a new level once again.  I would hate to see another coaching change at this point in time, but if it would happen, Penn State would hire another quality coach and the tradition would continue....especially when they are ranked #5 in the country and likely will be ranked that at the beginning of the 2020 season if not higher.  Wouldn't be like a new coach is coming in and starting over again!

I think JF likes what is going in Happy Valley.  I would be shocked to see him leave a top 5 program he has spent so much time rebuilding.

GO STATE!

I agree but if penn st steps up and gives him a 10 year deal I’ll be just as happy. Has anybody ever got a 10 contact? If not make James Franklin the first coach to get it because he’s young enough and dang sure good enough.

Then It’s time to get James Franklin one lol. I’m sure Clemson got that done because they’re scared the Alabama job might come open if and when Saban retires? I’m just guessing though

I agree and Clemson made that happen by giving him a 10 year deal

Don't talk so fast regarding 10 year deals... Always a buyout possibility...a long shot but not unprecedented...Franklin isn't going anywhere..  This is all useless babbling from some reporter looking for attention... Franklin nixed it in his presser. . He ain't going anywhere ...

Devils advocate argument.

NC's will always require beating OSU, MSU and the Western B10 Champ for Franklin.  FSU will have it easier.  They only have Clemson and when Saban beats Bears record, well Dabo is from Bama?  But the PAC10 would be easiest right now?

But who knows where any conferenc is in 5 years?  Can't plan your life on going to an easy conference.

James Franklin loves competition that’s why he took the Vanderbilt and Penn State jobs. When he took the Penn State job he could’ve got any job available if he wanted it he seen a challenge and jumped all over it plus it was penn st one of the best coaching jobs out there.

Let's hold on to the 10 year extension until after this Saturday!! This is by far one his most MUST WIN games of his career....imo.  If he wins, then let's hold on it to again until after the following Saturday...which will be his 2nd most MUST WIN game of his career.  And if wins again, then let's just hang on to it more weekend until the Ohio State game is over....which will then be his 3rd MUST WIN game of his career.  I will give him a little latitude on THAT game.  As long as he DOESN'T blow a 21-3 lead or make some stupid call that costs him the game, then I am in.  If loses a good game, that is fine with me.  If he wins.....FEDEX the contract P1 for delivery Sunday morning!!!

He is figuring this thing out! Definitley feel like he's becoming one the best out there simply because he is making great strides this season with a team that is good, but not the best....right now.  I am impressed with his last three game run.

GO STATE!
