Appears that we have short term memory issues when comparing James to Joe. I remember very well fans calling for Joe to retire because he had "lost touch with the recruits and that modern football had passed him by." Less than 20 yrs ago PSU won a grand total of 3 games.

Yep.
Big difference though, you don't pay a HC $6mill/year for the same outcome.
Joe earned the right to fix the problems we had back then and he did. I’m not for firing Franklin he does deserve another year to get this thing going right but it won’t hurt my feelings if he leaves for USC or LSU I believe after last year and the last 3 weeks it just ain’t working. James Franklin needs a new start and so does Penn State. I had a great weekend though my son and daughter-in-law came over for the game and my brother-in-law and sister-in-law came over for the race yesterday we all had a great time but man poor ole southern took it on the chin with sports over the weekend, Penn State lost, GT lost, the Falcons lost, #2 BK lost and the Braves lost so I don’t want to hear anybody whining about sports 😂
The good news is, it’s Monday and it is sunny ☀️ and beautiful outside right now just sitting here waiting for a few trucks to get out of the way so I can unload 😁 Let’s just take all this frustration out on Maryland, Michigan, Rutgers and Michigan State and all is good baby!!!

Spot on brother!!
There are a lot of angry men on here that believe they're actually owed a victory every time we take the field. When we win, it's in spite of the coach; when we lose, it's because of the coach.
We need to ask ourselves "at what cost are we willing to pay for an elite team"? Do you want to see our program go down that slippery slope that other teams have gone down just for the sake of winning??
I'm not.
If Franklin leaves, I'm all for hiring the best man out there. I've said in the past I believe we were on our way to elite when Moorehead was our OC. I was impressed with the halftime adjustments that he made.
I'll say it again, I'm proud of where our institution stands academically as well as scholastically. I'm proud that we do things the right way. I wouldn't trade that in for all the wins in the world.
I think we all know why we lost to Iowa and Illinois, Ohio St we just got beat. If James Franklin does want to come back does winning out the rest of the season finishing 10-3 make you feel better about where the team is? It does me but we need to win out. Until we get the players Ohio St gets we’re going to continue to get beat most of the time just like the rest of the big 10 teams do.
@southern-psu-fan: I like Yurchich too, I just don't know if he's ready to settle down or he likes being a hired gun.
Quite frankly, I'm not sold on Trautwein as our OL coach either. He was supposed to be all that and a bag of chips when he came here. Our OL is damn a near as bad the year two of our guys blocked each other on 4th and 1 against NW ( I think)
I really thought Penn State had a chance this year to make the playoffs. And even after three straight losses, I still think Penn State is a top 10 team. The defense gave up some big plays against Iowa and Ohio State that were costly, but I still think they are one of the best in all college football. The offense just can't put together a complete game and this is the ONLY reason they are 5-3 and not 8-0. As we know, the run game is sad. The play calling is very questionable and as much as I like Clifford, he still makes mistakes that shouldn't be made at his level of experience.
As for JF. After 9 years I expected more from him. BUT, Penn State only has two wins over top 6 teams since 2003. Ironically, both wins are over Ohio State. JVP in 2005 vs #6 Ohio State and JF over #2 Ohio State in 2016.
JVP was 10-22 vs ranked teams his last 9 years. JF is similar....JVP beat #9 and #6 Ohio State and JF beat #2 Ohio State. SO if we are o.k. with JVP his last 9 years, then we have to be o.k. with JF and his last 9 years. Bottom line is Penn State hasn't been a factor or a dominating program in a long time.....2005 they would have most likely made the playoffs. So for 16 years, it has been the same old same old at Penn State.
So yes, if they win out and finish with 3 losses in the season and win their bowl game, I would be thrilled for them. In fact, I think it is a MUST to do so at this point....if they have any thought of being a factor in 2022.
GO STATE!!
I am not blaming the current OL coach for what's happened this year, because I believe it is a lack of recruiting that caused it. We have not recruited OL well recently, and it's shown. Last year we were decent, but this is where our OL stands now:
Left guard: Transfer from Ivy League who showed up in August
Center: Converted guard who never played center
Right guard: Had an accident in 2019 and is just now getting healthy
We had no one else ready? Three guys who were thrown in there to start?
@psu61 Absolutely true. However, JoePa wasn't about money. I don't know that I ever heard of him asking for a raise. When PSU did raise his salary, he made some pretty hefty contributions to the University with that money. PSU knew there was very little chance he would ever pack his bags & leave, makes you wonder if the college didn't take advantage of him just a little. Coaching loyalty seems to be a thing of the past....not that the schools are loyal to their coaches either.
@southern-psu-fan I hear ya brother. Just remember, even in the Paterno days, PSU wasn't playing for a Nattie every year. And I think the schedule may have been a little lighter while we were still Independent. Back in the day when if we beat Pitt, it pretty much made our season. lol And Sorryexcuse was our almost guaranteed homecoming win.
@been-there-ii joe would usually have a team in the hunt to play for the NC every 3 or 4 years. 05, 08 and 2012 were teams that could’ve competed just come short which most good teams do. The 2012 was going to be nasty. The 02 team was dang good to we lost some close games that year nothing went out was and it all started with the BS refs at Michigan.
I'm kind of liking these "21 uncensored sports pic" teasers. Have to keep telling my hand not to click on it.
@roaminglion I looked at the recruiting rankings and it looks like we have four 4* and about five 3* recruits on the O-Line are these guys not good enough to beat out the guys you named. I looked on 247 sports. I don’t keep up recruiting like you do Roam I evaluate ‘em when I see them play on the field. I can’t say or spell most of ‘em name so I don’t even waste the time unless they start. I wish we could get an OC name that’s easy to spell but Moorhead was pretty easy I guess lol
@underlion: Whoa whoa WHOA!!! You can't be dropping big words like that and expect me to know what they mean. My God UL, I'm a Marine not an officer in the US Navy!! Save that kind of talk for Navylion!
@navylion: Hell brother, I don't even think I can pronounce it much less spell it!!

But how did Brandon do?? Did he win again?

WOW Spf!! What's next?? Hope no one shoots your dog
@tsuga believe me when I tell you, I had to scroll up about 4 times to get it spelled right! LOL!!

One thing to consider Southern, most OL recruits take 2 to 3 years to be ready to play. Whether that is just from beefing up, getting stronger, whatever it is, it takes time, unlike a freshman running back that can play right away and make a difference. As of now, I don't believe any of Trautwine's recruits are at that point yet. So if any position coach you need to apply a little patience with, I would say it's the Oline coach.
