I believe Menet  stayed 4 years. The RPO isn’t OL friendly according to Matt millen plus something I’ve been saying 3 years now that’s why I don’t blame everything on the OL. We’ve got 4 or 5 guys that Limegrover coached that’s playing in the NFL that’s pretty dang good considering he was only at Penn State 3 years and the OL was a disaster when he got here. I’m not even blaming the guy we got now but if what Roam said about the OL that’s starting today he’s got to take some of the responsibility along with James Franklin because he is the OL coach and we’ve recruiting a few studs according to 247 sports recruiting website. I just go by what I see on the field.

O'line is just one of those positions where a steady pipeline has to be maintained because of the developmental time frame e.g. 1) advanced beginner, 4-5 * recruit/1st hear collegiate/oh shit I'm not the big dawg anymore; 2) competent, getting feel for collegiate game, mentally understanding game speed/strength and physically getting there/serviceable on the line; 3) proficient, putting it all together, strength/skill/technique/starting on line/solid player; 4) expert, regardless of *s, now you da man! That's all easily a 3-5 year developmental grind/achievement.

O'line to me is the most grueling position cognitively and physically in today's game; there is a lot of mental processing going on from knowing your assignment and ability to switch in the moment based on D' scheme; to knowing that you are going to physically get the chit kicked out of you every play/every game, all year. To take that beating all year for the love of the game is exceptional IMO for the dudes that make it to the proficient/expert level. Gotta give them dudes a break sometimes.

What are you talking about, in Limegrover's tenure only Connor McGovern was drafted. No other lineman were draft at all.

Menet and Fries both were drafted after a year with the new OL coach.

@roaminglion   You paint the picture the way you want to see it, you know Limegrover groomed them. 9-8 since Limegrover was fired that’s the bottom line and I told you this might happen.

Paint what picture? He was coach since 2016 and had 1 lineman drafted. That's a far cry from "they were headed to the NFL in 2 or 3 years"

Conor McGovern was the only one. That's it. Both Fries and Menet were drafted in the last round in the 2021 draft, and neither is doing much. One is a practice squad backup and the other was released by the team that drafted him.

You make it sound like lineman were just heading to the NFL like hotcakes, come on bud.

Roam, SPF: Help me out here. Wasn't there an angry mob calling for Limegrover's head??  Seems to me our OL has been sub-par for years.

The last time our OL looked good was against Memphis in the bowl game. That's the last time I was impressed with any OL play.

Matt Rhule would be the best choice.

1. State College HS grad

2. Played for Joe

3. Successful college coach

4. NFL coach

5. He likely would never leave

Why is it that people get an instant orgasm everytime they hear the name Matt Rhule??

He's 47-43 overall and 1-2 in the bowl games He's coached.

Made Temple competitive and took over a scandal ridden Baylor. Basically Temple xucked before he got there. Everything is relative to the situation. I like Moorehead but don’t forget that during his time he had a great running back and a winner as QB.

See what I did there??

Yes, you supported my support for Rhule.  For the record, I want Franklin to stay.

He's also made Oregon's offense very good with no one you've ever heard of, including a unheralded transfer QB from Boston College.

@roaminglion  I’m hoping we have a stud QB and 2 stud RB’s coming in they will love Moorhead and I believe he would keep the recruiting class together but again if Yurcich is the man I’ll be just as happy. I don’t believe James Franklin should be fired I only want a change if he leaves for another job. He deserves one more year to try and get things going again if he wants to be at Penn State I just want to be clear on that.

You support Rhule but you want Franklin to stay??  Tell me, do you grow your own or buy it off the street??  I'd really like a few seeds from whatever it is you're smoking.

@tsuga

I don't know why anyone would expect Rhule to leave an NFL job for less money in college?

@roaminglion Exactly Roam! He is the fifth highest paid coach in the NFL at $8.5 million a year for 7 years which = a base salary of $60M, if he earns all his incentives that base salary could increase to $70M over the 7 years.

PSU isn't even in the top 10 of highest paid HC. To get Ruhle, PSU would have to pay money which would put him as the 3rd highest paid college coach.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Saban – $9,753,221

2. LSU Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron – $9,012,917

3. Stanford Cardinal head coach David Shaw – $8,924,683

4. Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney – $8,370,775

5. Oklahoma Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley – $7,672,710

6. Florida Gators head coach Dan Mullen – $7,570,000

7. Texas A&M Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher – $7,500,000

8. Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart – $7,133,600

9. Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day – $6,614,693

10. TCU Horned Frogs head coach Gary Patterson – $6,103,543

Okay, I'll stick it out there; JF deserves nothing. He's been paid, given a fair shake, and he either puts up, shuts up or moves on.

There are a lot of teams out there that are perennial 3 loss/year teams, year and year out; and a coaching carousel that keeps the momentum moving; it really boils down to what is being looked for, expected and accepted.

$6mill/year is a lot of greenbacks for average/above average on top of some boneheaded head scratching decision making.

Just for excitement sake and moving off center; I'd totally be happy if Mike Leach signed up just for shits and giggles.

Long term: Moorehead would probably stay a career as HC and bring in up and coming assistant coaches and probably field a top 10 team year in/year out. The caveat is, do other coaches want to work with him?

@psu61  deserves might not be the right word I just think he should get one more year if he wa TD to say because we have had some great success concerning what he walked into. We’ve won 3 of 4 against Michigan
