The details here matter, this isn't a kid who's just entering the transfer portal because he didn't do well. A family remember he is very close to apparently fell ill, and has been dealing with a lot of medical issues. The article I read stated that he's taking it very hard, has missed classes and practices due to it.
His father stated that he's glad Alabama has been supportive through it, but obviously transferring closer to home is probably in his son's best interest. Penn State would be the closest major football program to his home in New Jersey I believe.

It's very possible... Apparently we were in his top 3 with Alabama & Georgia. Doesn't seem he considered anywhere else close to NJ. If it is the case that he wants to move, I think we'd be his 1st choice.
Who knows though, he might end up not transferring at all. No matter what happens though, you're right... We all should hope that things work out for him.
