The post game fight between Ohio State and Michigan was not unique yesterday.  A total of four games had the same thing happen when the winning players tried to place their team flag at midfield:

1) Michigan - Ohio State

2) NC State - UNC

3) Florida - Florida St

4) Arizona St - Arizona

The Penn State rivalry game was tame by comparison, although Franklin and MD coach Mike Locksley had some heated words at the end of the game....

The Michigan player was being an idiot by running through the OSU players while waving their flag.

NIL

Good thing we don't have a flag and my player would know the punishment before hand just in case he got a stupid idea.

I'm waiting for  someone to go after the police for using pepper spray on their poor little boys.

Now what would I do if somebody beats me and decides to plant their flag on my 50?  Maybe my players know to let them and the stadium police handle it quickly and charge the boy with something?

This doesn't need to be complicated.

What? Is there some kind of law prohibiting sticking a pole into the ground?

I believe two of our players were going to plant a flag somewhere earlier this year, and Franklin stopped them before they did.

"We don't do that here" - if I remember correctly. USC maybe?

This flag planting bullshit has got to stop. Show a little class and sportsmanship. You win an away game, shake hands with your opponents, say nice game and leave the field. If you fight your way to the top of a literal or figurative Mount Suribachi after days of fighting, feel free to raise a flag.

There would a fifth game as Texas players were going to do it, but Sarkeisian told them no.

I believe Southern is bumping the thread to keep it above the revenge potion crap, just a placeholder.

As I have said before, the coaching staff sets the tone for this sort of thing...These teams are a reflection of their coaching staffs...I can tell ya that never went on when I was playing and it never went on when I was coaching...90% of this nonsense never went on when I played or coached...I blame much of it on the ESPNization of sports...You never saw any Touchdown dancing or prancing around after you made a play...Of course ESPN started showing clips and advertising it and now every play you think your either down here on broadway or in hollywood with all the choreographing that goes into these shenanigans...I can tell ya also back when I was playing if you cadillacked it around the bases or ever bat flipped you woulda been on your rear end every at bat thereafter and that is if you ever got another at bat cause the coaches I played for woulda sat your rear end on the bench and you woulda been collecting splinters...I personally don't like any of it...You are supposed to make plays...Act like you have done it before...I blame the coaches for allowing this crap...They could stop it quickly if they wanted to...

@the-funeral-director I think you are part right... Back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s coaches could rule with an iron fist. The players had no voice, and no outlet if coaches went to far... which some of them absolutely did.

Because of that, former players started to speak up. Social media came out and aired dirty laundry. The treatment players endured for years came into the light, and some of it wasn't pretty. That brought about change.

Now players can leave. They can sit out. They can opt out. They can change their minds 7 times... and then change it again. They also get paid.

Coaches just cannot discipline kids like they used to. They may get run out of town for being too harsh. Or saying something wrong. Or a star player just might pack his bags and go somewhere else. This 100% makes it much harder to instill the type of discipline coaches back thrn could. Heck, now a team like Michigan might have a QB next year making more than the OC. How is that OC supposed to discipline him?

Brave new world... pros and cons
